Bloodroot, Red Puccoon (Sanguinaria canadensis f. multiplex)
These look like tiny waterlilies. Fantastic plant to put on my wish list. I noticed your other picture looks like little roses and yet they are the same plant? Maybe one has a different genetic heritage. Both are stunningly beautiful.
Yes - this is a wonderful plant but very easy to grow in partial shade. The photos I posted are of the same plant but at different stages of the flowers opening. The single canadensis is very fleeting. This double form lasts longer in flower. I'd thoroughly recommend it.
I have the regular native bloodroot, and indeed it is fleeting. Sometimes I miss the bloom altogether!
Say, do you live in Quebec or the United Kingdom? With the zone being 8a, I am guessing UK.
I live in the north east of England
I see the QC is gone now from your address...that really had me confused! I was ready to move to Canada if they had a zone 8 there, ha.
Is zone 6 really that bad?
In a word, yes, LOL.
Not as bad as zone 4 and under of course.
The worst thing here is that the weather changes constantly. The temps regularly drop 20 to 40 degrees from day to night. It can be 70 in January (rare, but has happened) or -20. Just this week it was 65 degrees, now the temps are in the 20's. One day it is hot, the next is cold, the sun shines and then it's cloudy for weeks, etc. We always have summer drought and winter sogginess. Plants have a really hard time here. Snow cover is not dependable...some years there is no snow at all to protect them from the sudden cold blasts of air. We get ice storms, hail, torrential rains. But there are certainly a lot of plants that have adapted to these extremes, so it is not like a desert or anything.
If you like all 4 seasons and lots of changes, this is a great place to live!
You certainly seem to get it all. I have heard others in such climates wish for the snow to remain so that it protects the plants. I guess what they really hate is constantly changing conditions. You do well to garden at all!
I dream of an island where the temps range from 65 to 85 all year round.
Nice talking to you!
You too!
