What's the Difference?

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Hiya, I am eyeing two brugs in particular to buy, Tropical Sunset and Tequila Sunrise. Can anyone tell me the major differences between the two , i.e. how they compare as far as bloom color, flower shape, plant height, growing conditions, and/ or level of difficulty? Any info from the veterans is appreciated greatly. (Love the orangey-yellows!) Thanks!, Jackie

Tropical Sunset has larger flowers, Tequila Sunrise has more flowers and I think it's fragrant. It's been a while since I've grown it. I do remember it was a very heavy bloomer. The reason I don't have it now is because it was very susceptible to stem rot.

Thank you for the info, can you recommend something in that color range(orangey-yellow) that would be easy enough for me to find, and perhaps not too sensitive? I do have a Dr. Suess, and I think a Charles Grimaldi.

There are so many new orangey ones out I can't keep up. Maybe someone will come along and recommend one.

Jackie, the CG and DS are both great plants. I only have a couple of orange ones, I have Tropical Sunset(I've been so tempted to toss that one because it doesn't bloom enough to suit me, but every time I start to yank it out of the garden it blooms!) and I have Gold Rausch. I absolutely love the color on Gold Rausch. Most of my brugs are pink with a few yellows and peaches thrown in here and there.
I almost forgot I have HG and Double Peach, but I had to wait three or four years before I ever saw a flower on HG.
If you like a peachy color I would recommend Kurpark Bad Schalschriff(how do you spell that word?) It blooms and blooms and blooms, is disease resistant and doesn't get too tall. Versicolor Peach is another good peachy colored one.

Is the name you are trying to spell Salzschlirf? AKA Grazie

Yeah that's it, I never can remember how to spell that last part.

I know, I had to look it up :)

Hi, I am getting a rooted cutting of the versi-peach, I do like that one because of the versi-style flowers. Can you recommend where I can get a KBS? It looks great (I peeked at photos!) I am just feeling a little more confident now that I 've been able to not kill (should I admit overwater?) these beauties, and I finally was rewarded with blooms at the end of last summer. I would like to try different varieties and continue to push my boundaries as far as brugs go. Yes, I am officially addicted. Thanks so much! Jackie

As usual, I'm coming into this thread late, but I wanted to add that Jean Pasko is a beautiful orangey brug. Its more of a gold with orange edges. You might like it. Has very interesting balloonish looking, fat buds, and large fragrant flowers:

Pretty blooms, Gretchen.

You're welcome, Jackie.

Ada -- thank you. That ended up being one of my most favorites last year. Didn't bloom until late in the summer, but once she started, she didn't stop until December 1st when old Jack Frost got her.

I have a Brug blooming in the garage but I can't get to it to see what it is. LOL

Gretchen, Jean Pasko also became one of my favorites. We grew it as a small bush last year, but was able to make it into a smaller tree with two Y'ing stems. Isn' t it fantastic, how strong colors its flowers can have?

WOW Tony, what a lovely picture.

Two quite different representations of the same beauty, both are lovely and both photos are wonderful....

Beautiful picture, Tonny.

The colors are so pretty. Not just the brug, but everything in bloom there.

Sherry, the golds are at their best in late summer/early fall for me. It's funny how different colors look better at different times of the year.

Does the intensity of the color have to do with air temperature? That would seem to put a spin on identifying unknown/ unnamed brugs. Jackie

Wow.
I don't particularly like yellow, and I think that is gorgeous.
Get the sunglasses, hee hee.

Tonny -- that's gorgeous! I am guessing that was summer color. The picture of mine was taken in late November in my garden. And, mine were a more intense color in the hot weather.

Susie - is it me, newbie, or do pinks, all round, do better?? Every pink I've had is far superior to other brugs. I've never had white, but thus far, pinks are #1, tho I don't like reporting it, because they melt here, 2) yellow is second and 3) orange third - I don't have a white yet, so I don't know how white fits in. Best so far for me, zone 8a, are, for the ones I have are Rosamond, Pink Beauty, and, surprise to me, V Peach...is that unusual???
