I bought this product to kill cycad scale. I read the lable and it's also listed for mealybugs and only a couple of plants are listed as not able to spray on. I sprayed my coleus which are infested with mealybugs. I sprayed it on Black Magic and Illustris elephant ears too. It didn't hurt them at all but seems to have killed the mealies. It is made from sesame oil. It left a shine on the leaves, but even when the temps got to 80 I didn't see any phytotoxic response from the plants. It is supposed to have some fungicidal activity too. It made my miniature rose foliage very shiny.
It is listed as effective against 15 insects, their eggs, larva and nymphs. I'll see how it does against the mealies. Is anyone else using this?
It is listed for organic gardeners, leaves no harmful residual that will kill beneficials but I'd guess one wouldn't want to spray it on their beneficials since it has a smothering activity and would kill good as well as bad bugs.
Organicide and mealybugs
I need help too. I have some mealies on a couple of things. Just spraying with soapy water now. It's keeping them under control/gone but it's not the answer. also, some is killing my Copper Leaf. I have got to spray that too with something.

I think I have mealies on my hoyas. It is safe for them? I would like to try it and see if it will work.

Jesse, try it on a few leaves first. If there is no damage within 3 days, it should be safe to use. The label said not to use on euphorbias(poinsettia, crown of thorns).
What's the name of the product? Sounds wonderful!
The name of the product is Organicide. I found it here for what I think may be the cheapest price. www.plantlightinghydroponics.com/product_info.php?products_id=530

I've seen it listed as Organicide and Organocide, I think they're the same. It is made of sesame oil and fish oil, it smells fishy. I sprayed my roses, will see if it works on fungus.
Thanks Jesse....I wasn't clear on Organicide being its name or just the fact that a 'cide' was made organically :-)
I'm gonna go at lunch and see if I can find some.

On the label, Cala, are there mixing instructions, please...E
Yes, they have instructions on the label. It's 2oz per gallon and you set your sprayer for a very fine spray. A gallon of spray goes a long way.
thankyou, muchly!
Calalilly -
We are using predators (lady beetles - tiny black things..not the lady bugs) to attack the scale. The Extension Service will give them out...only thing that will get it. Cycad Scale really bad on this side of the island...whole plantings dying.
Aloha,
Someone else posted within the last few days what they did to get rid of those buggers. I had the same problem a few years ago and lost all. It was on a post about cycads. I watch the perinnals, brugs, and annuals forums. It was on one of those. If I come across it I will send it to you.
