Ontario's Turn...

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Shannon, I heard on the evening news tonight that Ottawa is now the one in the big "Deep Freeze"! Well the good news is that you shouldn't have to shovel snow if it's -27Celsius. Right?

Cochrane, ON(Zone 2b)

How is it down your way Shannon? It was -40ºC here this morning. Freezes the old nose hairs mighty quick. But like OFG says, no shovelling.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Hi broots, stayin' warm, I hope. What the weather doing out your way now?

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Hi Linda and Donna! Sorry I missed this thread last night. Well it's been cold for a number of days now, and today is rather grisly - blowing snow, and a low of -27 tonight (-40 wind chill). Good night to stay in...but DSO and I are going across the river to the U of O, to see the Toronto Tabla Ensemble perform. I only found out about it because the opening act is a local singer/songwriter whom I really like. Anyway, maybe the weather will keep attendance down so we'll get good seats ;-)

It looks like tomorrow the weather's supposed to break here, and become more seasonable - although you never know with EC. I know that in the west their forecasting has gotten practically useless in a lot of locations, since they had to cut back and centralise their forecasting centres a few years ago. My dad in Saskatoon says his forecasts now come from Winnipeg, and are practically useless. Ours is not too bad - probably one of the ups of living in the seat of gov't....lol

Linda, how are things there now?

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Not surprising. We watch the wether Channel and find that they are pretty accurate for even us out west. I'm not Linda, but I have heard that it's still raining out on the coast, so I would imagine the Island is still pretty wet too.

Be careful on the roads tonight, Shannon and enjoy that performance. Sounds wonderful.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

I meant broots-Linda, not MG99-Linda - but I hope they're both having good weather! You're right, I forgot about the weather channel for a sec there. My mom in Manitoba watches it all the time. They have a lot of interesting stuff on there - and IMHO could use a reporter stationed on the prairies, in addition to the coast & down east. Lots of interesting weather stories on the prairies.

See you all later! :-)

Yes, it's pretty wet and windy here but we haven't been getting the rain they've seen down island and on the lower mainland, thank goodness. It's about 10 degrees.

Cochrane, ON(Zone 2b)

Hi Shannon & Donna. Weather has not been too bad today. Nice & sunny. Temp's were about -30º but the wind was wicked if you happened to be facing north. Supposed to be -40º with wind chill again tomorrow. Guess I will only be going out to feed the birds & that's it.

Shannon I have a SIL that lives in Gatineau. Lives on Redemptoriste. Hope you have a good night out tonight.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

sigh...having quite a few of these "gray" moments lately...is that a sign?

It is still nice and mild in the Southern Interior. Been dry right up until a couple hours ago, and now it's raining like crazy. I'm glad, will melt the rest of our snow, I hope.

Glad to see everyone's doing okay and hopefully, for all our sakes, that miserable arctic front will head back up where it belongs!

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

...and stay there!!!

Criminy, is it ever snowing here! It was necessary for us to be out and about all afternoon, and being Saturday, my turn to drive...boy was that fun! I haven't driven in a blizzard in years. Its about -20C right now, but with the windchill feels like about -35C. The last I heard we could get up to 20 centimetres (about 8 inches). The snow is blowing so much though that there's bare spots in places and 3-4 foot drifts in other places. There's a major road out our back door; the snow is about 3 feet high on the sidewalk, so people have been walking (brrrr!!!) on the lawns, where there's about an inch or two. Getting into our driveway was a real challenge through 2 feet of snow; the wind is far too strong for us to be shovelling snow tonight so we have that to face in the a.m. Its supposed to stop pretty soon. Please....lol.

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

Sounds awful Christine. I hope you don't have to go out in it tonight.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Welcome to the rest of Canada, Christine, we've all been through this already. Hang in there!

No, won't be going out tonight, its after 10:30 here and nearly bedtime. I just looked out though, and its still blowing pretty badly. Can't tell if its still snowing or blowing existing snow around. Its really light and fluffy snow so its easily blown around. This isn't our first snow this winter by a long shot, but its the first blizzard and the most snow at one time. Sure won't be going out to make snow angels though...lol. Nite nite all.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

How are you all doing today?

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Clear (for once!), breezy & cold here, Pam. It's -18, with -28 wind chill. I'm so glad to see the sun !!!! :-) Thanks for asking! Looks like a decent day in Saskatchewan today, eh? How is it where you are?

We had lots of blowing snow yesterday, but didn't get the brunt of that storm that is now throttling the maritimes.

How's everyone else? Christine?

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

I'm afraid to jinx what we are having! I'll just say we aren't feeling any pain today. ;) And I'm not wearing long johns while sitting at the 'puter!!

Glad it missed you Shannon....I'm sure eyeing the weather right across Canada now a lot more than I used too.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Throttling is right! I saw on the Weather Channel, that St. John's Newfoundland got 60 mm of snow yesterday, for heavens sake and not much improvement for there or Nova Scotia today either. Tsk tsk.. On the other end of the country in Alberta, temps are soaring. I'm never going to hear the end of it from my Mom on our weekly telephone call tonight .LOL Supposed to be +12 there today. +16 in Lethbridge. Crazy weather!!!

Hi all; Happy Sunday! Today's weather is clear and sunny. Its about -20C out but with the wind chill about -30C. I was out earlier and it wasn't too bad, as long as my hat didn't ride up, and my scarf didn't slip down...lol. Its supposed to warm up overnight, to about -28C with the windchill. Went grocery shopping (after I hit the garden center...lol), and I swear everybody in the region was at that shopping store today, after being house bound yesterday by the snow. Nice for Alberta getting that chinook, they do get pretty crazy weather there.

Fredericton, NB(Zone 5a)

I guess that would have been 60cm in St. Johns, OFG. It's blowing like the dicken's here in Fredericton, NB. Snowed lightly to moderately all day - with the wind just blowing up a "blizzard"? - LOL. Was suppose to be at a museum opening in Moncton at noon today (about a 2 hour drive into the blizzard), needless to say we stayed put. Who ever heard of opening a museum in the winter anyway? We thought we were in for another 30-40 cm today, we just had that Thursday. I'm glad it missed us. Good luck Nova Scotia. Enjoy the heat Calgary :)

Oops, you're right JoSnoop. Another gray moment. I was never that good in Metric measurement.

ROFLOL That's the cutest picture Donna. Boy, you poor Maritimers are sure getting blasted....three blizzards in a week.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

We're all thinking about you & everyone else in the region, Joanne, & hoping everything's ok. I can't believe the amounts of snowfall I'm hearing from Nova Scotia.

Oh, man, its snowing again.... I just checked, and the Weather Network says we'll only get about 1 cm of snow, so that's not bad. But after Saturday, I think I'm still shell shocked...lol.
