i give up

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

i am so heartsick right now i am still in tears. had to go out of town last night on a emergancy run with hubby and didnt get home till like 5 am. went straight in and went to bed.

this morning the horror began. my fence had been cut( along with three other neighbors) my greenhouse doors open heater gone got to 16 agian last night my shed broke into stuff broke and gone. called the law and found out i wasnt the only one three other houses had been hit and two actually broke into.

my screened in porch is cut up. pic below.

they tried to get into house busted screen door but thankfully have deadbolts and dog in house. thinking more of dog growling then anything else.

all my brug cutting look like the pic below. is there any hope for them or am i out those too. alot of my plants in the greenhouse look like this. so i have lost alot. maybe they will come back though.

i am about to give up . my front flower beds are a disaster. they think kids did this. i am so fustrated at the moment i could scream.

my poor brugs and flower babies.

You poor thing. How people can be so mean is beyond me. Your cuttings might make it. They don't look completely frozen.

So sorry for your losses. I've been robbed twice and it's a terrible feeling. Hope you didn't lose too much in your greenhouse. Maybe some of it is salvagable.

I got a brug in the mail and it was frozen at the top where it was new. I uct the mushy part off and put a bag over it and put it in my root celler. Don't know if it will make it.

Normally what they do is bring back a doctored up piece of meat for the dog so it will go to sleep and they can break a window.

Hopefully your homeowners will cover all damage including the brugs.

I am so sorry, I have been burlurized twice and know the feeling well. Get some rest before you tackle the clean up. Be sure to take a lot of pictures and keep a running list.

I am so sorry! I can't believe what some people will do!

I brought a brug that I bought my daughter last year home from Chicago just before Christmas. I did nothing for her and she had pulled it out by it's ears and it was lying on the cellar floor for a couple of months. The top was completely dried and shriveled but the part near the dirt looked as though it might do something. I brought it home, put is water by a shady window. Lo and behold it started growing. It is now in the garden growing like gang-busters. So take heart, with a little love, they will do wonders for you.

I am so sorry to hear your bad news about your GH and plants. You wonder what makes some people so mean to destroy the property of others. Please if your brug cuttings don't make it, ask and maybe some of us can replace them for you. Plants can be replaced, please take care of yourself, you cannot be.
Margie

Mc Call Creek, MS

Imzadi, if your brugs don't make it, please let me know in the spring and I will try to help you replace as many of them as I can. I don't have many of the newer ones, but I have about 50 or so different kinds that I will be happy to share with you when they are big enough.

Just e-mail me here and remind me.

God is still watching over all of us and He is in charge.

Your friend,

I can't believe what people will do in the name of what? Fun, enjoyment? They will never know the pain until it happens to them. I'm sure sorry, but I think the ones in the bucket will do okay. Take some of the bigger leaves off it and let them go for a while to see what will happen. You might get lucky.

(((Marie))) -- I'm so mad, I'm spitting right now! The nerve of people. I'm so sorry this happened to you. God bless you! I hope your plants will be okay. Hang in there, kiddo :)

I am really sorry that people are so awful and did so much damage. I do hope you will be able to salvage some of your plants. Prayers, Donna

That is so sick! How were you all gone at the same time?

Security cameras have really dropped in price and doesn't take brain surgery to install.
While it don't stop vandals from acting, being able to identify them and get them caught sure helps. If they're kids then there's going to be some parents coughing up some cash. If not mistaken, the insurance companies will go after them to recoup what they have to pay you.

I'm really sorry it happened. Material things can be replaced but it leaves such a deep dirty feeling.

the house in the pic is being sold and they went to Fl. one of the three was done the night before and i guess they couldnt get into mine and moved down to the next house on the block. alot of us have dogs and fences so it makes it harder to get in the last house they did get into was just built like 4 months ago. they havent even been here 2 months yet.

hubby is gonna fix fence tommorow and put up bobbed wire. i dont know what i am gonna do about te greenhouse as the heater was taken. i am trying to move everything into the garage at least it has a little heat.

i have been at this all day. the screen door was shot so we took it down. the screen on the porch has been taken down too. i couldnt look at the knife marks in it.

insurance people are coming out agian tommorow for more pics.

i just cant believe this has happened. i am scared to go to bed. hubby got the rifle out the garage. we have water moccisins who like to visit.

we have been looking into alarms systems lately so i guess this sums it up we are getting one.

i know they can be replaced but it hurts. plants ripped up pots over turned golly my daughters camellia bush is now completly naked. tore all the flowers off and leaves off.. her banana plant a wonderful lady gave her from here is all brown. anyone know anything about bananas??

i just feel so sick. i have only been here since august and this happens.

i have asked for so many cuttings i am scared to ask for anymore.

i am really mad over my plumerias. i had three of them and two of the stalks are broke. after cleaning we found so much messed up. the insurance guy said if i can get prices for some of the plants they may be able to cover some.

how the heck do i price my babies??? i had to call my doctor earlier due to being so shaky thinking of what could of happened.

kids the police say. that doesnt make me feel any better. where were their parents???

it makes me so sad and i cant seem to quit crying. then i get so dang mad.

i just thank God we went with Hubby . Didnt feel like the drive but something told me to go so we went. God looking out for us i guess.

thanks everyone for all the kinnd words and thoughts. off to get some food. then bath. be back on later as it will be a long long nigt.

I am soo sorry!!

cut your banana off and take it in the house. It will most likely throw up some new sprouts. This fall I let both of mine get hit by frost then just left them out for a few more and was planning on tossing them. When I got around to dumping to reclaim the pots there was some healthy white growth so I cut off the pieces that were turgid and white and repotted. They've started sprouting in the basement and I have 3 up so far.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Marie, I feel sure that after you take stock of your plants and what you've lost, some of us will have replacements that we can offer you later as ours grows. It's a shame that some kids and adults get joy from destroying property that belongs to someone else.

ohh, that is just so plain stupid...ruining things just for ruining sake... I just don't understand people who get jollies out of doing bad things to others... I am so sorry for your loss.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

I know that it must be terrible to experience that kind of meaness. I can only imagine your sadness over seeing the destruction. Hopefully, most of the plants will survive and put out new growth. I know people here on the brug forum are very generous and caring and will do all they can to help you replace any frozen brugs.

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

How terrible to come home to a mess like this. Its a shame that so many of the kids now days do not have respect for anyone or anything.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Marie, I'm not sure where Jackson is, but it can't be too far from me. I will have extras this spring (assuming I get through the rest of winter without a disaster) and will be happy to share with you. Some of mine are 4-6 ft cuttings that are rooting in water, others are in pots. Remind me when it warms up.

Marie, I am so sorry for your losses and the fear you now are dealing with. I am glad you and your family are safe. Your plants can be replaced. I have very little in the way of Brugs so far, but lots of perennials and seeds. I am happy to share with you. I will check back with you later to see what I can send you in the spring. Good luck.

Marie,
I am so sorry for your loss. Once you tally what you have lost plant wise, please shoot me an e-mail and I will gather a care package for you. I hope the creep that did this to your property gets what he/she deserves for such a cruel act.

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

I have some yellow plumeria cuttings you are welcome to.

If anyone has any extra brug seeds they would care to send or trade, I will be more than happy to get a head start on spring for those of you not able to grow them yet. Anyone who needs seedlings come spring can have them just for postage. I have plenty of 4 in pots and trays and just picked up a pickup truck of potting soil this weekend.

So sorry to hear this! But please don't give up! I know it is discouraging - but chances of it happening to you again are slim. I hope they catch the culprits.
