So...anuddernudder question

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Are there any Brugs you would recommend specifically for an Alee - ones that get very tall. I want to plant about 50-100' both sides but they have to be tall....or is that asking too much? How tall can I "expect"?

Aloha

PS...is there a good way to find previous threads on specific subjects re: Brugmansias?

Aloha...from what I have learned...it is where the cutting is taken from that will somewhat determine the height of the tree before it Y's...cuttings taken from the flowering area will be shorter. From below the Y...will be taller.
Let's see what other add to this. There is a search...and you can specify Brugs only....good luck.
You have a nice long area to plant! Good for you!

I had a frosty pink that got about 18 ft tall every year. I finally ripped it out this year because i was afraid it was going to start crimping my water pipes.
It died back yearly and came back bigger every year.

Good point, Picturelady...I will see what I want to plant and cut from below the Y. I imagine that there is a whole lot involved with environment...

I would think cutting below the Y are much easier, and cheaper because most want the flowers sooner, and the tree shorter. good luck MSJen.

Carol, I'm a real newbie, and the thing that interested me right off were the trees, alee, I love them. So, last year, late in the season, I cut a 6 /12 foot limb outta my original, unknown, brug. I put it in a pot and it rooted so quickly I couldn't believe my eyes. Then it bloomed right at the same time, it had buds when I cut it but a storm destroyed all but one or two, but, I'll be darn, if it didn't bloom again in the fall. It is now living this winter with it's head out her skylight. Well, since rooting that tree turned out to be so easy, I cut the majority of the cuttings I have in the greenhouse very long, but not 6 feet, but long and some were green, then limp, and i never expected them to root. That was on Dec 15, 2004, the day of our first hard frost, and guess what, every one of the cuttings has rooted. Mine won't be as tall as some trees, but they will be at the least twice as tall as the the short tree I bought last year, and I know I have a Rosamond and a Pink Beauty, so I'm really a happy camper. Have you started rooting a tree, which one(s) are you trying???

Oh, Carol, I forgot something - I'm going to build a dirt mounds to give the shorter trees that I'm rooting. They are 5 feet, maybe taller, but I'm going to try to give them as many more inches as I can. I want lots of them too, but they will have to come inside in the winter, but I do have several places where i can winter them. I'm ready to pot the rootings, but think I should maybe wait until Feb 15, to give them two months to be 'dormant', tho I'm just not sure if they are. And, some of the green cuttings did not have Ys, so I guess it's possible for them to get taller on their own, ya think???
