I know its not alot, very few compared to what some members sow, but i was pleased with myself.
My first step in "doing it right" in '05.

I hope you have better luck with your seeds than I'm having. This just isn't my year. I'm sure I'm going to have way more than I need though.

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

I have been preparing my seeds for planting this morning too. I definately have Spring fever. I got out yesterday and did yard cleanup in preparation for some warm weather.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

I can't wait for warmer weather. I'm so tired of cold, dreary weather.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Good luck on your seeds Jen and I hope you get something special and unique. It is so exciting to see those little seeds pop up.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

Good luck MSJen, I have never heard of those first two.
Brugie i am not doing so well either for some rean, although I did mine all the same way, there are several seeds that just moulded in the first week, could it be the seeds?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I think it could be several reasons. Sometimes seeds are empty, sometimes we don't notice but a fungus gnat has already laid eggs and one of the larva has gone into the seed to eat the inside out, and sometimes we get a fungus because the seed hasn't been soaked to kill contaminants in a 10-1 Clorox bath for ten minutes. It could even be contamination in the soil you use. I have to say that the soil I'm using this year is over a year old and I'm wondering if it just has too much decay in it even tho I sterilize it. I don't know. I've also had a lot of failure with the rockwool this year. Started out good with the first batch and they have been potted and are doing well. The second to containers damped off for some reason, right inside the bag. Now I have two more planted and I'm waiting to see what will happen. One is in the cork and the other is full of all peeled seeds. Both are in bags.

I have never used the bleach bath. If you peel your seeds, do you bathe them before they are peeled or after, or both??

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Ut, i was supposed to give them a bath first?? Egads, lol.
Okay, so maybe i'm not off to a good start : )

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I forget sometimes. Either that or I'm just too anxious to get things planted and out of my way. I use the clorox soak if in the cork. Out of the cork, or peeled, I use hydrogen peroxide, 1 part to ten parts water for a ten minute soak. I don't know if either is necessary, but it can't hurt.

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

If i've already sowed them can i put a few drops of the peroxide in the squirt bottle and mist them?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

It can't hurt Jen. H2O2 is used to help keep the soil aerated. It sure won't hurt the seeds.

Brug I have never soaked in peroxide mix.
These are all in Rockwool that I did soak overnight then drained

edited to say that they are in greenhouse, and covered with clear plastice seed container

All it does Doris, is stop some of the possible fungus that could grow. Most of the time, I've not had a problem with it, but as I said above....well, those are gone forever now.

Moscow, TN(Zone 7a)

I have spring fever. The weather has been beautiful the last week. Made me want to haul a few things out of the GH. But then I checked the weather forecast, 21F tomorrow night. Drat!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Its due to get cold here tomorrow. I too have Spring Fever! I'm ready to get outside and start building new beds. Maybe next week.................

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

So far the only seeds that have sprouted are the coleus. I'm not seeing any life out of the brugs.
Is it hard to start them in jiffy pots?

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Jen...I don't think starting them in jiffy pots should be hard. I think they may dry out quickly due to the peat on the edges .
I don't use them anymore because I had the trouble years ago planting veggies in them & having them perform well and when I up-rooted them after the season was over, the roots were still confined to the little peat pot!
