I have 5 acres of pure sunshine, but no running water or electricity. High Desert where temps go from 10 to 100. I am thinking with all of this land there has to be some kind of money making idea out there, that could turn this deserted land into something worth working. Especially with all that sun. I thought about cactus but it's too cold... I thought about Mushrooms but it's too hot. I thought about Solar Power but it's too expensive. So I am puting it out there to you folks to ponder. Who knows maybe we can come up with a really great idea and I can be of help to someone else.
Thanks for your help,
Abby
5 Acres of Sunshine
OOops, I just answered the other post and just read that you don't have water, no matter what you put into the ground, it will definitely need water until it gets established. Nothing will live just like that without water. You are not too far from me. Do you live there, and is there any chance you can get water? At least to establish the plants. Gosh, I would love to own your property, I hear it is beautiful up there, but also you get lots of snow.

Thanks again A,
Yes I can get water, but it just about has to pay for itself.

Abby, there are hardy cactus! I have seen pictures of cactus gardens under snow with just the tops sticking out. Do a google search and see what you can find, also ask on the Cactus and Succulents forum here on DG. We have a native cactus here that is hardy and I have seen some prickly pear types in a desert garden at a rest stop along the Oregon/Idaho border (zone 6).
Thanks Mary E I will do that...
thanks again
Abby
