LOOK, Look ! Woo Hoo!

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

Well, If I sound hysterically excited, I am! This is my first bloom. I didn't even know they were there until last night when I watered this big sprawling Brug that is housed in my jewelry studio (not yet in use) This one wouldn't fit in my GH so I put it in there, there are 2 windows & mild heat. I only water it 2Xs a month. I spotted this & thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. It had buds on it after moving it in there as did some of the ones in the GH, but they fell off, well I guess they ALL didn't fall off! & closer inspection there are 11 others right behind this one. This one is about 4" long. WooHoo, I might see my very first bloom!!! Yay!

It is a wonderful treat to find buds this time of the year. Please be sure to post a picture when it blooms out.

WooHoo, WOW!

Do you know which one it is? Happy for you.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

sorry you are not more excite *LOL* Congratulations, what is the name of the Brug.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Bobbe Jean, you are so lucky. What a wonderful way to start the year. What is the Brug? Give us a picture of the whole plant.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Congrats. I know you won't be disappointed, no matter which brug it is.

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

Here's a shot of the whole plant, it is rather sprawlly, I was going to post as what to do with it come spring as the limbs are longer than the trunk.
I don't know which this is. It was sent to my by a friend gardener in Houston. She had trimed two different bushes in her jobs & just sent me some cuttings. She said she cut a white & a peach, so who knows!?
Her cuttings are the only ones that don't have any names. I call this one Lynnie. LOL & right now a bloom is a bloom! :)
So now that you seasoned Brugmasters have seen pics of this sprawler... what should I do with her come spring?
Thank-x for sharing in my excitement! Bj The next shot is more of the Y & limbs

And the leaves close up in case someone might be able to tell by the leaves.
This plant is crammed in with all of out boat stuff, so the orange you see around it is Life jackets!.

Bjs - that first pic you posted was sure pretty - the leaves look so healthy! Good Job!

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

wow, and it doesn't look that tall, but lots of branches.

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

Yes, it is not very tall. The branches are wider than it is tall, I'm not quite sure what to do with it. It is sitting upon a tall bucket now, if it were sitting on the floor the branches would be on the floor. So maybe some Brugmaster will come to my rescue. I could make it a tall pedistal & make it look like a weeping Brug! LOL! Bj

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Way to go! We all know that joyous feeling upon seeing that first bud, then the subsequent bloom. Can't wait to see it when it blooms!!!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9b)

How exciting! Congratulations. I'll be watching for a photo of your flower.

Eureka, CA

oh you are in brug heaven now-congratulations!

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

Well, I musta went in that room 10 times today just to look at the buds, not sure how long it took to get where they are now or how long until I actually see a bloom, but I'll wait. I have waited all summer, fall & this long into winter.
Did all you other Brug nuts get this goofy your first Bloom? or is it just me?

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

The only winter blossoms I've had were on cuttings that bloomed in the water buckets in the GH. Congrats, Bjs, that is a cute brug too!!

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

Congratulations BJ! You will become more enraptured when you see and smell the actual flower. Oh the joy of experiencing the first bloom(s)! I remember it well. :-)

Corte Madera, CA

congratulations! we're all watching!!!

=)

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

My guess would be that the cutting was from above the Y is the reason it is so short. This was my first cutting, and it was only labled 'Salmon'. It is 2 years old now and these are the first blooms on that one. Still a thrill and a welcome event in January.

Beautiful, Linda!!!

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

Geeze! I can only hope these blooms will be as pretty as those!
As soon as I get to see the bloom, you will to,as I can't hold this excitment in.
Tep, it's made me plumb goofy!

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

BJ.....it is exciting and yes, we have all been goofy about seeing a bloom. Believe it or not, the excitement never goes away.

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

Well... here''s an update! out of 11 buds only 2 remain one has popped open this AM, looks like short tendrils & it's still green. Here's a pic from this AM. You can bet I won't stay outta that room today. Guess I'll just drag a chair in there & make myself comfortable! I'll keep ya posted! WooHoo! :)

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

Me neither, geeze it sure is slow going! probably open when I'm at work!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

They seem to go so slowly when you are watching so closely. Makes me nuts. It is looking great though!

Hiouchi, CA(Zone 8b)

hi Kell

BJ
it's really going to happen - honest :-)
you don't have to put your sleeping bag in the jewery room :-)

Dick

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

It was out a bit more when I came in this evening. It's green, I guess they don't change color until they are bloomed out, eh?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Hi Dick!!! I was going to email you tonight. I have been reading my emails.

Some show some color. But it is winter and probably colder than in the summer. It makes them open slower and can affect the color.

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

Hey Dick! Too late I'm already proped up in the bag as we speak!
Just kidding. I hope it opens up tomorrow. I have to be away all week to work at the flower shop, getting ready for the dreaded Valentine's Day. Yuck! my last year for this too. I'm tired of standing for hours on end!
If i see more bloom tomorrow i snap a pic of it.
My neighbor called today, from Red Bluff, (CA) he was at a nursery & they had several plants of "Snow Bank" for $9 so I had him get one for me. I don't know how well it blooms but I sure do like the leaves. Just add another to the collection, what the heck!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I should have added that some open one color and then change to another. I have had a few open yellow and then turn pink. It is fun to see them in the 2 colored stage.

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

I bet! Heck, I'd be happy if it opened & stayed green! LOL!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Gosh my mind is just not working anymore. I also should have added that often the winter color is very different than the summer color. Also the first flower can look much different than the second flower. Also that the first flush is different than the second and the first year color different than the second. That is why it is strongly recommended you grow a seedling 2 full years to make sure of what you have before you register it.

Brugs are so entertaining!!

Sounds like you got a great deal on the Snow Bank brug. Lots of people do not like its performance, but mine has done well. A bit slow in growing but steady.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

My Snowbank has taken a lot of abuse and is still alive.......LOL

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

How exciting! Can't wait to see it in bloom.

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

Well... it finally bloomed! It sure did take forever! It's a white one & it does smell nice although not over powering. It was the only bud to make it & I'm glad that it did make it to bloom, now I know what color this cutting was!
I'm anxious for spring!
