Hello from a little dot in Illinois -Worden.

Hello. I just joined the club and am fascinated about all the info. I cannot wait until spring. Just got a new greenhouse and am especially excited to get it set up. This site is great....

Welcome. Cindy!

You're right, the site is great. You'll find everything you need here and if it's not here you can ask. Do you have particular plant interests? And what are you potting in the spring? I grow Dahlias, Dahlias specifically and then of course, I am interested in design and other landscape plants. I have used help identifying plants in the plant id forum and found a lot of photos and ideas.

I hope that you have as much fun as I do!

Welcome, Cindy

Thanks for the warm welcomes. I am leaning towards tomatoes. I really want to try some grape tomatoes. I have started fermenting some seeds, and we will see how that goes.

I absolutely love dahlias. They are so enjoyable to look at. This site has so much information. It will take me a long time to get through everything I want to.

Thanks again and see ya around the forums.

Hi Cindy,

It is very nice to meet you! I saw your reply on my greenhouse reply and didn't recognize your name so I thought I would go track you down! LOL You'll have to write or post and tell me/us more about your new greenhouse.

Try not to get lost. There are a bunch of forums. :)

Hello Cindy - Small world we have now. Have you heard of Mt. Olive IL??? That is where me and my husband are originally from many many moons ago. Welcome.

Hi Judy. Mt. Olive -why yes, that is about 20 minutes from us up I-55. My husband does a lot of work in Mt. Olive. Small world indeed. Thanks for the welcome. Isn't this place great!!!!

Hey, how come I haven't heard of Worden. I lived in S. IL all my life. Graduated from SIUE, in fact. Collinsville H.S. before that. What else is Worden by? Surely I should know where that is. Have I truly lived in a vacuum all my life? :)

I lived in Cahokia for the first 10 years of my life, then Caseyville, then Belleville... I love the area.

Welcome to DG, by the way. Great place here.

Carla, well you have named all the towns around me. Just a little dot like I said. How about 3 miles from Hamel? When I was young -grew up in Edwardsville (wasn't Edwardsville and Collinsville rivals?) -I used to come to the homecomings in Worden. Never in a million years did I think I would ever live here. The village is really too small for my liking, but I love my house (1909 Victorian). The price was right and the yard twice as big but very shady. this is my first go at serious gardening, got a greenhouse, started some seedlings, and I will go from there. This site is absolutely fabulous and what a wealth of info. Thanks for the welcome.

Sounds like you have a great place for hostas - my favorites. :) Sorry it took me so long to get back to this. I've been obsessed with the PlantFiles lately.

Next time I head back that way, I'll holler at you and we can get together. I grow a number of things at my folks' house (there in IL) and should be able to give you some starts (lots of hostas). :) Also, plenty of native ferns in the woods surrounding their home.

Let me know if you have any questions here, too. I'll do what I can to help out.

OK, now you got me. I am a fern addict. I try to have as many different varieties of ferns, inside and out, as I can find. Just cannot resist. And you are right, my yard is full of hostas (can always find a place for them) and ferns too. Yes do give me a yell and we will talk dirt....LOL.

This is one of the ferns that they have...

Another, which I can't find a pic of, is a common forest fern. Very pretty and very free. :)

Thanks Carla. I am going to order a couple from forestfarms. They have some i have never seen before. Thanks for the link....

I've hijacked your "welcome" thread. :) Sorry.

Ok, folks, keep welcoming Cindy. I promise, no more talk of hostas or ferns at least for the next few hours.
