Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Those will look wonderful Shawn! I grew Prairie Sunset last year and really enjoyed it.........you're getting a very nice selection. Ü

fort erie, ON(Zone 6a)

thanks ,the coneflowers looked pale at the show the guy told me its because they were forced to bloom for the show ,with the right planting site they should be fine ,shawn

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

If you by chance have any shots of the Prairie Sunset coneflower, I'd love to see it. It was one of the ones I got in the Christmas Exchange RR last month. I am looking forward to growing them this spring.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Sorry Donna it was named Prairie Sun, here's a picture I posted of it: http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/54909/index.html

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Oh now that is pretty Pam. I dug out that seed packet to have another look and lo and behold all it says is "Prairie Coneflower", so I don't know which one it is. I guess I could check with kat7 and see or just plant and wait to see what surprises it brings...

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

Gosh, that's a beauty Pam. I'm going to have to write that on a list for next year.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

It's a nice large flower and it caught my attention daily (bloom lasts for a long time)....I think you will enjoy it Sandy.

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

My mom loves Rudbeckia. She bought one last spring called 'Irish Eyes'. It was nice but not as nice as that one. I think she'd like it. Actually....my mom seems to like all flowers.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

How great. I put in E. Orange Meadowbrite (Art's Pride), last fall, along with Double Decker, and this after losing E. Razzmatazz the winter before. Now I find out Razz is not that hardy for many. Couldn't resist anyway. Art's is lovely as it ages flower from bright to burnt orange with reddish finish. Very pretty with Canna Tropicanna (Phaisson). Enjoy. I really should have Sunrise, no? But then it is yellow is it not and I am not fond of Y. Dawn

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Ahh, thanks for that wonderful description, Dawn. I found myself wandering through your garden for a minute...it was very nice! I have rudbeckia "Indian Summer", and it is just beautiful; large, long lasting flowers from early August through to frost. I can't wait to see them blooming again.

That's a lovely picture Donna...so sunny.

Shawn, how much are these plants costing? I started some Doubledecker last year and will probably sell some this year if they survive the winter. Will probably wait another year for Meadowbrite and see how they do in my area. Have you grown any other of the named Echinaceas? I was thinking of trying Kim's Kneehigh, if I find another spot. Would be fun to try crossing it with Doubledecker if it would work. I've had purple coneflower in my garden, reseeding itself for quite a while. I don't remember what I started with years ago, but probably mine are just plain old purpureas.

Peeps, don't confuse Rudbeckias with the new orange/yellow Echinaceas.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

You caught me there echoes.....I read coneflower and got confused. :S Good thing your around to keep us on the right track! :)

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

ho ho ho. Was going to buy double decker. Now I won't. hint hint. Was going to spread my existing cone flower patch around in the diff. gardens in the neighbourhood and just have DD in MY garden.

Does anybody else guerilla garden?
Inanda

No, but I have a guerilla in my garden. I think if you look real carefully, Inanda, you will find you already have a young Double Decker in your garden, at least I hope it's in YOUR garden..

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Now inanda's praying she didn't trade that one away....or forget to plant it before freeze up! :S

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

I'd rather have a gorilla in my garden.

Oh, I like that...Echinacea Orange Meadowbrite "Art's Pride". And you have it, Dawn? Lucky Lady. Very nice. I will have to look out for it, cause now, I Want One!!

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

Oldflowergirl they have those every year in front of Abys

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Gee, I don't think we have Abys here, Kareoke. No that I have heard of anyway. But I'll definitely be looking for them. Thanks anyway.

fort erie, ON(Zone 6a)

kareoke ,are you sure they are new intros as of last year

Shawn, if you're crazy about Echinaceas, maybe you would like E. paradoxa. Nice yellow, can be started from seed and should be hardy for you. I'm thinking it would be in the breeding of these other lovelies.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

Shawn, I was at the garden shop today, and saw the orange cone flower you were mentioning. I picked up that on, and a double pink one as well.

When I got to the till, the double pink one was $7.99, and the orange one, $39.99! Gasp! these were 4" pots. suffice to say that I got the double pink one, but the orange one stayed behind. They had about 8-10 of them. This was Garden Works.

I hope when you find one, it's either worth it to you, or much cheaper.

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

for that price it should be a 24 carat gold coneflower!!!

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

that's what I was thinking......$40, sheesh!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

I was reading somewhere that the Echinacea Art's Pride won't come true from seeds. The reason why it's costing so much to buy a plant is that they are started from tissue cultures. Has anyone else heard this? I've ordered two of the 'Art's Pride' and a 'Doppelganger' and two Gaillardia 'Fanfare'. Can't wait to see them flower.
:) Donna

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

LOL, gee I'd order a "Doppelganger" just to be able to tell people I have one. I want one of those Double Decker Purple Coneflowers. Good luck to me finding one here.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

Donna, I"ll keep my eyes open for you when I'm out window shopping at the nurseries. Would a double pink do? I know they (we) have that one. I didn't see a single purple let alone a double purple.

Linda

I think there should be plenty of the Doppelganger to go around. These can be started from seed and the seed has been available for a couple of years. They may not all bloom double the year you buy them, depending how old they are. Don't be paying 15.00 for one.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Oh yes, Linda, Pink would be great too. That's the one with the second little flower growing out on top of the first one, right? That would be terrific, Thanks.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

this is the doubledecker pink that I mentioned. Let me know if it's the one you wanted. If anyone else is interested, they were $7.99, and they had about 10 when I was there the other day. I can hold onto them until you get here for the RU.

Linda

Thumbnail by MG99

That's a much better price Linda. I think they(doubles) are all one and the same. Probably all much closer to pink than purple.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

That's it, Linda. Yes please! I would be happy to pay you for it unless you want something in trade. You name it.

Winnipeg,, MB(Zone 3a)

echoes
guess I will have to put double decker on my wish list..

Ya, OK

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

I've got the double decker pinks for Donna & Pam.
Anyone else what one, there's still a couple at the nursery.

I double checked on that orange coneflower, it's called 'meadowbright' and it's still $39.99 !!

Linda

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Thanks so much Linda. I sure appreciate that. Woo Hoo!!
