houston gardeners, does this grow in your garden? seem most catalogs say zone 4-8, but i'm just checking. I want to grow some so bad. If yes, is it invasive?
lilies of the valley
I'm in 8, and they do really well for me. They are well-behaved and reliable.
So many bulbs don't do well in Texas, but these do well for me. I wouldn't think one zone would make that much difference, but then again?...

Lily of the Valley are picky, they grow in some gardens and not others - even next door!! If they do grow they can be invasive. Not so invasive that I ever minded given their beauty and perfume mind! They spread via their fleshy root system, crossing under paths etc if they feel inclined. I had them in my last house and they were very happy, in almost total shade, but not overhung so they had plenty of overhead light, just no direct sunlight.
I gave some to my neighbour and they wouldn't grow for her. We tried several times, she planted them under shrubs and in the open sunlight though so that may have been the reason. My grandpa grew them under a huge old apple tree, but they stayed on the outer edges of the overhang, not deep underneath.
Hope this helps!
