In looking through my gardening books I've discovered a lovely plant called Ornamental Oregano, its beautiful, I've decided it's a 'must have' for my garden this summer. If you've grown it have you had luck and do you have a pic? There are only a few pics in the Plant Files. Can it be grown from seed? Thanks,Jill
Have you grown Ornamental Oregano (Origanum 'Kent Beauty') ?
hello momo- I have a Kent Beauty now for 5-6 yrs in a pot which I stick in a barely heated greenhouse for the winter, though maybe it is hardy to zone 5, I just don't know for sure. Anyway, I love it for the interesting cascading blossoms- I bought my plant--if I remember correctly by mail order (maybe Richters), haven't tried from seed.
laughing here thinking I called you momo- when you probable mean "mom of"- any way good luck with the kent beauty
Thanks sjms, it's on my want list! I'm not sure If I'll be able to keep it through out the winter if I ever get one but I'll sure try! :)
Sjms, hello again !!
I have wanted a Kent Beauty ever since I saw a picture of one and looked everywhere for seeds. Finally found a place to buy a plant but had to buy 6 plants. Minimum. So, I bought 6 but not of the KB. A variety, mostly Thymes.
That is how badly I wanted that KB. I bought them and should be getting them any day now. What I should have done was buy several of the KBs and sold them to people who are having as bad a time as I did.
Can't I grow it as a house plant? I don't think it will make it outside in my zone 5.
Jeanette
Hi Jeanette, I've read it can grow outside but not during winter months, I would love some too but I thought after shipping and handling charges and having minimum orders to boot (usually 6) that I cant afford to order online, so I'll wait untill they show up at the garden centers --- they're bound to eventually! :)
I bought Ornamental Oregano at
Bluestone Perennials
I buy most of my plants there due to their prices. They are small plants but one time I ordered over a hundred dollars worth of plants and we had a drought and most died. they replaced them all for free.
They come in three packs but they have several varieties. Not the Kent though. Be warned I have it in my garden and can be a little invasive. As well as a skin irritant.

Hi mom,
So sorry I didn't do a little research and find you before I ordered. I would have gotten more than one of them and sent you one. As it was I was looking all over to find enough things to make up my order.
We'll see what I get. Maybe I can take a piece off of it. I'm not sure if they have sent it yet. Haven't heard from them.
Keep in touch.
Jeanette
well thanks Jeanette! Its ok, I'm sure they'll be in the stores eventually --- too lovely not to be! Good luck with them, I hope they arrive in good condition. Jill
