I have a clump about 12" in diameter that always blooms early and is blooming now. The problem is that I only get 2 flower stalks on them. The leaves are healthy, but there are just too many of them. Will fertilizing now help for next year? What's the best one to use? I never cut back the foliage, but it just doesn't seem to help.
How do I get more daffodil blooms?
Pins,
I would try seperating them. I had a few clumps that were so overgrown they never bloomed. They compete for the nutrients in the soil.
This year they are blooming their heads off.

Thanks, Jen. I'll do that after the last bloom dies out. They do look overgrown, and they've been in for several years. BTW, congrats on the news of your b/c. That is such a relief! I'm having a lumpectomy on Tuesday, so keep me in your thoughts.
Oh gosh, I know exactly what you're going through. Do you have to follow up with radiation therapy? I will definately keep you in my thoughts!! Did they stage your cancer?
Do your blooms like like the one i posted under ID? There arent too many daffs that are blooming right now, and i think youre pretty much in the same zone as i am.
If ya need to talk or vent feel free to email me,
Jen
Pins - you're in my prayers.
Thanks, Jen and Brenda. I really do appreciate that. I have stage 2 cancer. The tumor went from over 6 cm down to 3 cm so the surgeon thinks a lumpectomy will be fine. (He's not promising I won't have to have a mastectomy if he can't get clear margings, but it won't be on Tuesday.) I may definitely take you up on the email, Jen. I can't seem to find your daff posting on the identification forum. Mine is a small flower, yellow outside, orange cup, with several flowers on one stalk. Pretty little thing. Planted eons ago, long before I ever cared about the names of flowers.
I think Jen's ID post was in the Bulbs Forum......I could be wrong though.

Wait with digging until the foliage is completely dead as to give the bulbs that are there time to get all the nutrients it can before digging and transplanting. Then after planting give it some slow release fertilizer and again some in October and then some in February.

You are in my prayers .

Oh, there it is! Beautiful daff, but not mine. Thanks, Brenda!
Bleek, I was just thinking about you yesterday when I was looking at my bed of irises I'm tending, waiting to see if they bloom true to their names and descriptions. I'm so glad to hear from you.
Patti, thanks so much for the hugs and prayers. They're always appreciated.
