If you read my last post you'll know that yesterday I found a beautiful male cat. Right now, I'm in the process of giving his owner(s) the chance to find him or we plan on keeping him. In the meantime, since we didn't own a cat, I was unprepared. I quickly rushed to the store & bought him a covered litter box, cat litter, food & a cat toy. He seemed he hadn't drank or eaten in a while so he ate about 2 cups each of food & water. He finally used the litter box last night which tells me he knows what its for. However, during the night he used it two more times and this morning before my DH went to work, the cat had an accident on the carpeted stairs. I got up at 5 a.m. to clean it up, cleaned the litter box and went back to bed. When I got up, the cat used the litter box but tracked some on the floor just outside the litter box.
Alright, so my questions are and please excuse me if they sound dumb but this is the first inside cat I've ever had. Would you say he is litter box trained by his behavior? Are some cats fussy about using a litter box that has been used a few times before getting clean? I have no problem cleaning it daily just that I was thinking of what we'd do when we went out of town for the weekend. Thanks in advance,
