Brrrr

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Uh Oh...gonna get cold in God's Country. We got snow yesterday and today, not too much, but it has now stopped. Now I know why. I checked the forcast on the Weather Channel website. Yikes!! Nothing but big ole Sun icons, which means clear and cold!

Castlegar, British Columbia

-2°/-16°C Thu

-10°/-22°C Fri

-13°/-21°C Sat

-13°/-14°C

My poor plant babies. There is no snow under the eaves close to the house on the south side. If the temps are going that low, I'd better get out there and start shovelling that white sh..stuff onto the Rhodos, Hydrangeas and Roses.

:Donna not complaining...calm...

You beat me to it Donna I was just going to start a thread for Lynn called Misery Loves Company.

Reality bites!!!!!!!!! Frigid cold is comparable to starving wolves circling your house......just waiting to pounce on the smallest mistake.

Damage can occur within minutes

Frostbite can happen very quickly, within minutes in fact, at any temperature below zero degrees centigrade. The lower the temperature, the quicker the damage occurs. Windy conditions increase the risk of frostbite too.

The fluid in skin cells and the tissues beneath the skin freezes, causing damage to blood vessels and blood clots to form. This prevents oxygen from getting to the tissues, and all cells need oxygen to function properly. Without it - they die.

It's the extremities, the fingers, toes, face, ears, and nose, which are affected most often. Initially the affected patches of skin become cold and white, they may tingle too, and this is called 'frost nip'. Following this, as the damage from frostbite becomes more severe - numbness develops together with blistering and pain. Without treatment the skin takes on a waxy feel and appears dark blue or black as the cells die - called gangrene.

At -40C and colder the smallest mistake can result in extreme frosbite, loss of digits and/or death.

I think we should move up the date of the RU to next week. We may be a bit cold, but it'll be like +3 to -4. You guys need relief.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Just the bearer of Glad Tidings, that Pam.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Linda if your greenhouses have plants in........we will be there tomorrow!!! Ü

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

So echoes is that blank space above a sign that your tongue is frozen to a metal pole or are you in whiteout conditions there?

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

we got some plants, but there'll be so much more when you're out here

I'll make sure they keep the best selection for you prairie guys, you've sure had a tough summer and winter so far.

Maybe this will cheer you up ;-p

Oh the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we've no place to go,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

It doesn't show signs of Pauseing,
And I've bought some corn for popping,
The lights are turned way down low,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

When we finally kiss goodnight,
How I'll hate going out in the storm!
But if you'll really hold me tight,
All the way home I'll be warm.

The fire is slowly dying,
And, my dear, we're still good-bying,
But as long as you love me so,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Hit the shift button and the #8 on your keyboard Donna......that will give you the *.

Yes Pam it's coming down again. I'm sick of winter already. Don't want to see it, feel it, or talk about it no more.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

I know the feeling.......wouldn't it be wonderful to hibernate for a couple of months!

Could you call and wake me about March 15th? I can still start a few seeds then.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

ROFLMAO.....truly echoes your humor makes my day!!

I doubt I'll be starting any seeds this year.......my parents' house *might* be done by the end of April (barring an extended deep freeze) so I decided I'd save myself the work. I will straight sow a few tho.

You thought I was JOKING!!!

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

nope :)

I'm off to check out the scenery at Cannings.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Great place to plot and plan.......their prices are out-of-sight tho. :S

Their catalogue's not up yet. Come and check out Whitehouse, some good stuff there. Not too pricey.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

What's their url?

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Thank you! Will be joining you right away. Ü

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Pam it's not the * I was talking about. It's the "Grin". Can't do those. Laptop!

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

The temp has dropped here in the last day. It's early evening, and -12.1C here in Seward. There is a cold spell all over Alaska. My plants all have a layer of snow or straw and snow, so I'm hoping they are OK. This is pretty cold weather for us, but still above 0 F.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

I always get confused 0 F...where's my conversion chart...oh yeah, so -18 Celsius.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Got it now Donna.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

I have a switch on my thermometer that gives me Celsius, or I'd never know how to convert it.
