lows between 20-26 most of the weekend. More sub freezing temps this winter than the past three years combined.
Well here comes the freeze again!
And a high of eighty predicted for tomorrow. We certainly get a wide variety!
They are saying we will get into the low 40's or upper 30's on Thursday night. Geez, I'm over this! I have to move my tender elephant ears and other tropicals that aren't in the ground into the garage one more time.
Such big jumps in such a short time...hope you don't have rain too. Sounds like perfect ingredients for roads collapsing. Stay safe everyone!

A wagon sounds like a good idea for hauling the plants around...in & out who, needs an exercise class???
Ugh... better than more snow:)
Stay warm,
MsC
I wil re-evacuate my plants to the garage (&$%#^)
My Wife and I are going to the coast (kids in tow) despite the weather. Our 15th anniversary and I promised. I even took Thursday and Friday off. Oh well any time I am away from work and with my family I'm happy. The rest is just the details.
Jester, are you coming to South Padre? Ya have to pass right by my house to get there!(well, not right by my house, but real close)
just down to Corpus Christi. Love going to South Padre but just not up for the drive right now lol .
If you decide to come on down to the Island, drop in on us and have a cup of coffee(or tea or coke or whatever).
Thanks for the invite. I will let you know ahead of time if we do go down that far. If we don't make it this trip then maybe next trip down. We love to visit the coast often.
I love the coast too. I also love to go to North Padre, the ghost crabs and all the birds are just great to watch, plus it's not crowded like South Padre.
Are you guys having lots of wind? It's blowing so hard here we had to close the office windows(we had them open cause it's such a nice day). There were papers blowing all over the office!
My plants have more frequent flier miles than I do.....sigh
I'm taking the day off tomorrow to move them into the garage. They've changed the forecast from 36 to 44 as the low tomorrow night, but I'm not taking any chances with the tender stuff. My brugs and tropicals are just now putting out new growth from the last round of this stuff.
It rained with strong winds for about 1-1/2 hours then we were left wth clear skys and strong wind. Looking foreward to spring.
It rained all day yesterday and has been pretty windy as well for the last couple of days....yeah! This Texas weather is incredible...if you don't like it, wait a while and it will change to your liking...(maybe)....
Can't wait for spring....

I sure do love my cheap 8 by 10 greeenhouse we put up right before the last hard freezes. I don't have to lug everything in and out of the house anymore. I even used to have to put some plants in my bathtubs due to lack of space ... now I can still bathe during extra cold weather! Plus, I am attempting to start a lot of cuttings that I took before the last freezes which I have never been able to due at this time of year. I still have to move some of the larger plants out of the greenhouse on warm days so I can have enough room to move around in order to water the cuttings and the other plants. Now all I have to do is protect some of my plants that are planted in the ground. My husband gave me an indoor/oudoor weather station for Christmas so I am able to monitor the temperature outside from my warm livingroom. I told him I needed another one to monitor the temperature in the greenhouse. Lo and behold, one of my brothers gave me an even better one for Christmas that I have set to sound an alarm when the temperature falls to 36 degrees in the greenhouse so that I will know if the heater has quit working. I have the alarm set to let me know if the temperature is too high also so I can turn the heater down or off or open the door and window during the day when it is not freezing. It even monitors the humidity so I know when to let in some fresh air and/or circulate the air. This monitor is in a bedroom window. Life is easier now. :o)
Rosebruce, my daughter lives in Plano. You guys have had some pretty cold and nasty weather up there for sure.
Calalilly, Yep ... you can't trust the weather forecasters. During the last cold blast, one night they predicted a low in the 40s and it dropped to 28 instead. I had uncovered some of my cold tender plants that are in the ground and the foliage sure did freeze. I hope my gingers will come back from the roots. My 6 foot tall variegated ginger is not longer variegated, just all brown.
I hope all of you in the valley and coastal areas are spared from any more hard freezes and snow. I felt very sorry for you and your plants during the last blast. We expect weather like that here and are usually prepared to suffer if we have tropical plants that need protection, but you guys sure must have to had been scurrying like ants to save what you could. I remmebber when the tempeeratures fell near 10 or 11 degrees one year here and even my hybrid crape myrtles froze to the ground and how that felt. Good luck.
It rained most of last night here and the wind really kicked up too. tonight the low is to be around mid 30's.
The hardest part of living/gardening on the coast is the back and forth from warm weather in the 70's to colder weather 30's. One week it's spring like then the next week it's winter, then this cycle repeats itself for months.
The plants never really go dormant and never really stop good growth. Then we get a freeze and then they thaw out .
It is really amazing that any of them surive.
Of course I will take our fickle weather any day over months of snow and really freezing temps some of the other DG'ers have to contend with.
Guess we gotta take the good with the bad???

Even though I miss the cold and snow of the hills of Tennessee, I love the length of the growing season here in South Texas. I know spring is just a couple of months away now and I am getting ready to plant my MG's and get them ready to go out with the first warm days.
The hummingbirds are still here too and I just replinished the feeders. I am sure some were just to weak to make the migration and stayed behind. I saw them drinking while the snow was on the ground so I guess I better keep them in food for awhile longer.
My stuff is beginning to show new growth too so I hope we don't have to much more cold weather.
Dee
We were 44 last night. I checked acuweather.com and weather.com. Acuweather always gives it colder than weather.com and they are the ones who predicted how cold it would actually be at Christmas, but they both missed the snow! Acuweather gives the lowest temps for this weekend of 44, and weather.com gives it 47.........either one is okay with me, as long as it doesn't freeze! I have a greenhouse sort of, lol. It's a shade house, figured I didn't need the plastic cover, so I didn't get one!
It's really pretty today, about 60*F, no wind.
