Thank you, Toxicodendron. I have to give credit to my quick-thinking husband, who works so hard to make our yard beautiful.

Stunning photo of a plant that most people from where I garden, don't even know exists. Great shot!

Why oh why does this one have to be invasive!?!?!

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

There are few times when I find value in living with brick-hard clay soil, but here's one: Nandina is unable to spread as fast as it does in loose soil. Even where the soil is amended, it's not unmanageable here.

Thanks to all for your comments.

With a lot of invasive species, you'll never know they're spreading though. Birds and other cuddly critters drop seed or fruit in natural areas and boom, it's all over. I still wish it wasn't though it's the prettiest, most beautifullest doggone invasive shrub.

Great Shot!
Perfect timing!

Quotation from the August, 2005, the AVANT GARDNER: "Many plants which appear on state lists need to be re-evaluated. More than a few have been placed on such lists due to extremely limited or erroneous reports by non-expert observers. As Felder Rushing says in the current HORTICULTURE, Nandina domestica was placed on the Florida invasive exotic plant list because of a single isolated report, whereas this handsome shrub never spreads widely or in any way becomes ecologically disruptive."
