May have messed up!

Jackson, GA(Zone 7a)

I found Aphids on my brugs today so I sprayed them with 55% Malathion then saw on the fine print on the lable that you are not suposed to use it on sensitive plants. Did I kill them?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Brugs while planted outside aren't very sensitive as far as I've found, but inside....the leaves are a little more tender. I don't know if it will hurt them or not. I would think if they do have leaf loss, they will still put out new leaves. Just a guess, but brugs are pretty hardy plants. Good Luck.

Hubbard, OR(Zone 8a)

I've sprayed malathion on my brugs a few times and it didn't bother them a bit. Did you mix it according to label directions?? If so I would say that you should be fine.

Thank you I mixed it by the label directions so I should be Okay I am real new to brugs, thanks to Vi I have gone from 1 brug a year ago to 54 today,or maybe I should'nt thank her.

Then soon you will be an expert!! I love how brugs can lose all their leaves and within a week or 2, they are growing all new ones! It is a very forgiving plant.

HA! Afraid to tell me Bruce?
Guess I forgot to tell you the part about how Bugs love Brugs :(

Hi Brucedean, how's your Mama doing? Hope ya'll had a nice holiday and you are both well and feeling fine. The plants I got from you in October at the swap are doing great. Can you tell me a little about this Jewel Orchid? It sure is pretty.

I only started this thread with Kell's post, but, newbie that I am, I suggest that she is totally correct, brugs are forgiving, give them a chance, they will do for you!!!

Jackson, GA(Zone 7a)

Hi guys,Well Vi I did'nt want you to think I was guilty of brug abuse.Turns out the aphids came from the hibiscus that are in the same green house.Got the under controle now. Loretta the jewel orchid likes full shade high humidity and noy to hot.Flowers are kind of dull but the foliage is nice.blooms in winter.Mom is good today is her b-day tried to tell me she was old I told her no you won;t be old till next year then she hit me.

Ahhh, Happy Birthday Maureen!
Does she still come to DG Bruce?

Jackson, GA(Zone 7a)

es but shes shy

I used Malathion on my entire greenhouse a few weeks ago....including brugmansias. It's the only thing I know that will knock the heck out of a bad mealy bug infestation. Yes.....DO wear a respirator when you do this. No, I did not have mealy bugs on my brugs, but they did get sprayed, too, with no ill effects.

Do you use the same sprays for mealy bugs and aphids?? I thought I had aphids, but now I wonder if it might have been mealy bugs. Mine were green and lots of them, I used Safer insecticidal soap with seaweed extract and it appears to have killed them, but I surely don't want them coming back...

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Sounds like aphids. Mealy bugs are whitish and cottony looking.

Jackson, GA(Zone 7a)

yup the Malathion kills mealy bugs to.I'll pass the B-day wishes on to mom thank you

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Thanks, Brugie!! We've had aphids on colored crepe myrtle, and a variegated plant , I've forgotten the name, and camellias, but never on annuals or perennials and the ones I've seen were apparently old aphids, these looked new, but the Safer took care of them, I hope!! Oh, we have aphids on pecan trees too...
