Gloria had a horrible ice storm and was without power for four days. Then seven inches of snow fell! ***YIKES*** She finally got power back last night and she sent me some pictures. HOLLY cow.... So much damage to the trees in her yard. BIG trees too.
Now you all know Gloria, she's a trooper! But I think some good thoughts sent her way will help her feel better. So please join me!
(((( big hugs and lots of love to you Gloria ))))) I'm wishing some warm weather your way.
Thanks,
Kristi

Sending good thoughts to Hibiscus (Gloria)
Kristi...what a nice idea! I surely will send them! Thank you for letting us know.
BTW...I love the brug and the under-plantings in the photo. Are they yours?
Margie
I hope all her brugs made it! How did she stay warm? Sounds just terrible!!
Margie the brug in the picture is Kyle's Pink. It bloomed all season for me. One of my favorites.
Kell they couldn't leave their house because the ice was so bad. Her husband bought a generator several years ago. They could turn in on a couple hours at a time and that was it. It was enough to keep the house warm enough. Although she couldn't use her stove or microwave as the generator wasn't strong enough for that. :( She had a really hard four days. She did say that many of her brugs dropped their blooms.
Thank God for that generator! I bet her husband is so glad he got it or it would have been a disaster.
Lots of cold toesies out there...!!!
Gosh, that is too bad. Seems this storm was nasty in a lot of places.
Yuck! Gloria -- I hope you're okay!!!
I remember our icestorm here several years ago. We went 8 days without heat. Even the phone went dead after a few days. I went to work with the same jeans I'd slept in because I couldn't shower and my fingers were too cold to even change. It is NOT fun! A friend of mine got her electricity turned on before we did, so I spent the last couple of days at her house, along with many others, all of us camped out in her livingroom floor in sleeping bags (hey - sure beat the cold but you still had to be the early bird to catch a warm shower!) :-)
I thought of her when I heard her town mentioned on the news. They showed a little bit of the nasty weather that she's been having. Great news about the generator! She has her plants in the basement, that helps a lot, too. They hold the temps a lot longer than than something above ground, even without heat.
Ronna I sware I must live in a bubble. I had no idea that such bad weather is going on all over the place. My dear friend in San Diego called me today to tell me about all the rain. Maybe I need to turn on the TV every now and again?
Wow, Hibiscus, do I ever wish you the best!! Our last ice storm, with exception of a mini ice storm 2-3 yrs ago, our electricity was off for 13 days, at home, thank the Lord that the office was up and running all the time. Just one of the weird things is that after the ice damaged everything in the entire area, looked like a bomb explosion. We have a giant water heater in our house, in fact, two of them, and amazingly we had warm water almost the entire time. We had a small battery operated TV set and watched in bed with the covers thick and piled high. We took turns holding the TV where we could both see it and swapped it back and forth when we got so cold or teeth chattered. The TV was one they took to ballgames, to watch other ballgames, the tiny screen was about 5 or 6 inches, awful reception. The only channel we could get played reruns of stuff like Ironsides, the Fugitive and Beretta - the only good thing about the programs was that we had never watched those shows, so they were new to us. And, one 30 minute show was SNL reruns, we were in heaven!! Whatever, those 13 days, seemed like 13 years. We had to stand in line to bathe at our friend's mom's house that had a gas hot water tank. There are still signs of the storm, that may never diminish, certainly not for many more years, but they are now only mostly obvious in the winter after the leaves fall. Hibiscus, I hope you are back, up and running, that that things start an upward trend for you and your family. Wishing you the best!!
I'm here! Well, partly..........Thank you sweet Kristi, and all the rest of you for warm feelings, I sure need it. Hope we never have to go through that again, 4 days of H...!! Cold, not HOT tho'. I imagine we are all going to be seeing power outages more and more in the future.
Still trying to catch up on those lost days. Brugs ok, warm enough, they just didn't have their florescent lights, had some in water rooting, doing great, most have white roots.
Thanks again dear DG friends.
Good for you Hibiscus, ain't white roots exciting, I bet yours are going to do great!!
Gloria, hope you get a heat wave soon.
Sending you the heat from my hot flashes. You should be able to heat your house for several hours on one.
You are so funny! I went through that. Anything warm sounds good to me! Thanks Loretta.
Ada: getting that heatwave from Loretta! Yes, Sherry, those white roots are VERY exciting! Everything still looking good. Brugs dropped all their buds, but new ones coming on.
Hibiscus, I hope you and yours are well and safe (and warm!). Too funny, shadowgirl! I can send her some of mine, too, then she'll really be warm and toasty!
We better be careful, don't want to burn her house down. Or start a flash flood by melting the snow and ice too fast.

Gloria
Hope everything is starting to get back to normal
These warm ups and freezes can't be good!!!
Is everything OK at your house?
Hang in there Gloria ..... stay safe and warm!
Gloria, I am glad it is all over with and behind you now and that everything including your brugs are ok. Hopefully, this won't happen again to you this winter.
I'm so glad your back!!!! I hope you get some warmer weather too.
(((Hugs)))
Stay safe Gloria. I'm sending you loads of South Florida sunshine!
Hi!
Today is one of those dark, rainy, dreary(no sun), "grumpy" days, but heck, I'm glad to have lights and heat, and to still be alive. Love to all.......
Gloria, maybe these types of things happen so we appreciate the all the stuff taken for granted, like electricity. It has been cloudy or raining here almost everyday for 2 months. Today it was in the high 60's but I would trade that for in the 30s if the sun would shine.
I think what you said is true Loretta. Today, we had 66 degrees and SUNSHINE! Talk about weird weather, but I like it.
I know Gloria, we had the same thing here. 9F one day and 60F the next. The temps have been in the 60's for a week or so. It would be great if the rain would move out. I turn off my heat unless it drops below 50F. lol
So glad it is over Gloria. Hope it doesn't happen again. I really feel for all of you that have to go through this
So glad you made it through Gloria. Being without power is so awful. We are so spoiled by today's conveniences, aren't we? My kids whine when the power goes off like it is the end of the world. The weather everywhere lately has been strange, huh?
