Getting to know you!

Moscow, TN(Zone 7a)

Last year on another site I started a thread like this and it was pretty fun. Tell some positive things about yourself that most folks here don't know. You can post as many times as you like.

No peeking without posting at least one thing about yourself.
Edited to say: I can see that there are those among us who are peeking without posting.

I am a very sociable person that loves to talk and laugh. My family and friends laugh at me because I will strike up a conversation anywhere, with anyone. If there is no one around to talk with I will carry on a conversation with the dogs or even myself. At a party I would be the person most likely to wear a lamp shade on my head or do a stand up comedy routine or hog the kareoke stage.

Ok I will add some more. Up until age 35 I was the marketing director as well as a babysitter for the VP of a company that imported botanicals. Then I quit, went back to college, and got a degree in anthropology and philosophy. My family, especially DH, thought I was crazy since I made pretty good money in sales. After graduation I noticed no one was hiring any philosophers or anthropologists so I stayed in school and got a master's degree in professional counseling. Now I am a certified rehabilitation counselor. I also have a landscape design business called Nature's Tapestries.
DH & I moved into our dream home last winter. They will have to carry me out of here feet first. Our daughter is away at college. She is majoring in football players. lol But she is a good girl and very pretty.

Gosh Loretta, I've been here twice now and still can't think of anything that people don't already know about me. Guess I've lived here too long.

I used to do hand quilting, but the computer and brugs as well as a few other types of flowers have kind of put it in the background for a while. I do fiddle around making lotion bars, body butter, and lip balm when some of my friends are in need of it. Last year at the roundup, I had a big basket of the lotion bars for people to try. I was just getting started then. They are much better now. No need to ask.....I don't have a site or sell them. Just a hobby.

I'm married to a very understanding guy, of course I think I'm understanding also. LOL! I grow a vegetable garden every year and we live on three acres that had to be mowed a lot more than I wanted to, last year.

We have a cat that owns us. We also have a nice deck in the back yard with comfortable furniture just waiting for any of the Daves members that want to stop by.

I live a pretty boring life, but if I think of anything juicy, I'll come back and add it to my post. LOL!

Shirley

I guess I left a lot out too, so I'll put it in here now.

I'm the mother of three, have six grandchildren, and have been married twice. In high school, I was the Iowa State Free Throw Champion of 1962. Basketball was my favorite class. LOL! I spent 17 years as a pre school teacher, but once I began having grandchildren, I knew I had to quit so I could spend my time with them without being a teacher. My kids are scattered from Iowa to Denver now. My DH is retired from the Navy (26 years). That's about it. I really don't have an exciting life to write about. LOL!

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Hi! I'm another Shirley, but from Maryland. I'm married, have two grown sons, one spoiled dog, and work full time.

When I'm not growing Brugs, which I learned about at DavesGarden, I also grow perennials, annuals, and vegetables by "wintersowing" seeds. I love Roses and grow several Clematis vines through them.

When I'm not gardening, I love to needlepoint, crewel, and do bargello.

That's about it!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

It may be more fun to have us write bad things about ourselves Loretta! LOL

I think everyone knows pretty much everything about me if you have read many of my posts. I am not shy! LOL I think my life may be more boring than Brugie's. But during this decade of my life, boring is good. I get my excitement thru my son's life, much to his chagrin. LOL!!

I bet most of you do not know that I grow well over 50 kinds of roses. I just added 12 this bare root season. I had no idea I had so many until I actually counted them last year. I thought I had about 10 total.

My best gift in life is waking up practically every morning happy. It has really been a great thing. My life can be a disaster but I can smile or make myself laugh. Maybe I am just too dumb to know better! LOL

I am a registered nurse and run a clinic. I am thinking about retiring many years early because I have lots more fun things to occupy me these days. Like being on Dave's. LOL

I have made some great friends here who share my life and I share theirs from not only all over this country but also from Germany and Canada. They make me laugh every day, sometimes even amidst our tears!

Best of all, I have a great husband and son, plus 4 sweet cats and 1 crazy bird to love. I could not ask for more. All in all life is very good to me and I am so thankful!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I had no idea Brugie made lotion bars or that kell has a bird - what kind. how old and what's its name?? I had a 19 year bird that raised my Goldens,, etc. When someone would drive on to our street, my Yorkie would bark and my bird, would swing on his trapeze and say 'look out below'. Made me happy for 19+ years...

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

See, I rest my case My life is an open book. LOL Sherry!

His name is Macho Baby, a 7 year old Indian Ringneck who is featherless wonder! And Brugie's lotion bars are the best! Just like she is! LOL

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3a)

Loretta, I can't remember if I said this last year or not but I work on freight trains.

I'm a 49 yr old mother of 3 grown children and grandmother of 8 grandbabies and 3 step-grandbabies. For the first 17 years of my marriage I farmed and ranched with my husband. (My love of plants has never diminished, only morphed.)

I studied photography and had my own darkroom. I also had(have) a passion for weightlifting, swimming and long distance cycling.

I'm a certified crew chief of both hot air and gas balloons and built a web site for the Balloon Federation of America.

In '99 I became a hot shot and OTR driver of my single axle truck and 48' trailer. Until then I enjoyed making quilts.

Today I have taken up my photography again - this time in the form of digital photography. I hope to start a new job next month as the photographer for my daughter's soon-to-be newspaper http://www.theriversedge-news.com/ .

One of my hopes for this year is to finally make the move to our 25 acres in Kerrville where my DH and I plan to have several greenhouses where we can to grow plants for sale at local market days.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

I am a lurker in most sites -as in life, I tend to sit on the side lines and listen!! Unless the conversation is about gardening - then I am considered the guru among my non gardening friends!! LOL I am a retired teacher (33.8 yrs in the profession) I loved every minute of it, but when a buy out was offered - I hemmed and hawwed and then jumped for it! I do miss the kids, but don't miss all the hassle of the administration!! I have never been busier!! Start most of my seeds (except the 10 flats of impatients I need every year) and try growing most anything.

Have two wonderful boys - on their own now (not so wonderful during those teen years!!) and one super grandson. DH got the axe in the tool and die trade after 33 yrs, so now he works at a 'weeder' business that his dad had. Really crummy pay, but he loves talking to the farmers and getting them going. Change is good... Also have a one eyed cat that follows me where ever I go - even in the bathroom!!

Life is good- but would be even better if I could lose the 20 lbs I porked on the last few years- working on that daily tho!! My greatest woe in my life is that I didn't amend my flower beds before planting and now they are so huge that I never could dig everything out and do it!! One of lifes little lessons...

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

Well mine will not be exciting but I am happy. I lost my husband of 45yrs to Cancer in 1986, I have 2 daughters and 2 sons who blessed me with 10 Granddaughters, they in turn have blessed me with 18 Great Grandchildren and one on the way, one son and daughter lives close by,the rest are spread out, Illinois, Phoenix. N.Caroliner.Indy.
I like to work in the yard a lot, 3yrs ago I hand dug a pond 10'long 6'wide and 3' deep. BUT in July I found DG and kell, who introduced me to BRUGS. I filled in the pond. have about 30 brug seedlings growing and I am going to have the best flower garden in town. At 78 I doubt if I will ever get the whole family together in one place but if I do you will see a picture of a LARGE , Happy. family

Edited to add that I am not surprised at the 19 Greats, I was born in England and the second youngest of 15 children, if you really want to read about me you can see it all here.

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

kareoke, Well this I just found out, you and I are very similiar. I am also 78 and lost my husband of almost 50 years, in1994. Have 3 grown children scattered all over US, they provided me with 6 grands, but so far no great grands.

I used to paint, oils, watercolors, etc. but now that I am older mostly garden. Going into my 4th year as pres. of local Senior Citizens, keeps me pretty busy. Here in zone 5 gardening keeps me doing that type of thing all year, as now in winter have to sort through catalogs and mark interesting gardening seeds, plants, etc. I am a friendly person and do enjoy people Learned about brugs through DG, and must get my seeds planted. Donna

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Well, I am another Donna, living and loving in the Southern Interior of British Columbia. I was a School Librarian (all 3 levels) for most of my 35 year working life. I am retired now and finally have time to grow the plants, trees and flowers that I love so much. After joining DG, I was introduced to Brugs. I have several now, but this summer will be my first blooms, and I am so looking foward to that. I have a wonderful husband (who is still working 'cause he hated being retired!!), 2 Devon Rex kitties, 1 SpanielX pup, 2 kids, a boy and a girl now married. My son lives with his wife and my only grandson in Alberta, and my daughter who is a Physical Therapist lives with her husband in the Okanagan here in BC. That's all I can think of for now. :D

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

I am enjoying everyones stories...so here I go...I grew up on Long Island and at 16 years old, met my DH. We have 4 grown and married children & 8 grandchildren, ages 2-9 years old. All of the children live within 45 min. of us...which I love.
I am an RN, retired. About 10 years ago I got my masters in counseling ...and went half way through the MFCC internship and then decided to stop. It was during this time...around 1994 that I got into gardening. Gardening helped me make my decision about how I wanted to live out my life...in peace or with added stress. I choose peace, and left the push to get licensed.
My last years in nursing were in Home Health, which was the gentler place to be...until the VNA was bought out by a major co. Then it was no longer pleasant and I was so happy to be retiring about 7 years ago.
Now, since retiring I wake up happy almost everyday and can't wait for the day to begin. While photographing flowers a few years ago, I met and fell in love with daylilies. I have a little over 200 daylilies and am active, as Publicity Director in the AHS regional daylily association & have been to their national convention in St. Louis, last summer and plan to go to Cinn. OH this summer.
Since I have been introducted to brugs, this past spring...my interest in them has taken priority over daylilies...and I just love them. I do tend to be compulsive and have many more brugs than I will probably find room to plant. I have and plan to share them with family and friends. I do enjoy the fellowship of DG and really like the sharing that takes place here....both in friendship and in plants!
I love photography and have a little card business called " a moment in time...". In the old days I liked to quilt and sew and do tole painting and crafts in general. I love to read and visit with friends. I was voted the quietest girl in the senior class from high school, but if the topic is right and the group is small you would never know it today!
I have no animals, but occasionally "kitty sit" for friends of my children...another little business! And I forgot to mention, my DH and I have an RV and he likes to travel. I would rather stay home and care for my plants...but occasionally give in to taking a trip. But just so you know....I would rather stay home!

Decatur, IN(Zone 5a)

I'm a SAH mother of three. My oldest turns 6 on Valentine's Day. I met my husband by accident....well, sort of. I worked in Valparaiso, IN as head cook for an organization that has retreat centers all over the US. I was often asked to go to another center in TX to substitute for their cook when ever she went on maternity leave or had vacation. She & I attended the same cooking school so we were friends. Well everytime I went I often visited with her & her family. She & her husband had a mutual friend named Mike. Maura often mentioned that she was going to set us up on a date but on one occasion her DH overheard us talking and interupted us by saying he had the perfect guy for me, a coworker of his named Mike. He is quite the joker so I assumed he was joking. Then he said he was going to invite him over for dinner. So, he did invite him over for dinner & even cooked the whole meal. To Maura's surprise & mine, his friend Mike did show up, we had dinner, watched a movie & talked. As soon as Mike left, he asked if I liked him. The rest is history. I married Mike (his coworker) almost a year to the day we first met. And Stephen was right, he is perfect for me.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I have two cats, a weimaraner dog and a cockatoo. I was born in TX but lived in TN for most of my life though we traveled a lot and always came to TX at least once a year. I've been in almost every state in the US and several foreign countries. I moved back to TX last Dec. I am married with one child. I am a real estate appraiser.
I majored in Environmental Chemistry in college but have never worked as a chemist and have probably forgotten most of what I studied. By the time I got out of college most of the chemical plants were closing in our town and I went to work at a greenhouse. I didn't know much about flowers so I bought all kinds of books and learned all I could about the flowers that they grew there. I started out as labor and worked my way up to grower in charge of 12 large greenhouses. We opened our own business in 1987. We owned our own garden center/commercial greenhouse business for 16 years until we sold it in 2003.
I paint with watercolors and acryllics. I love plants with colored foliage, collect elephant ears and fragrant tropical plants. For many years I worked with 4-H animal projects, the FFA and also ARBA youth programs. I showed English Spot and Mini-Lop rabbits for several years. We raised an assortment of fowl, like fancy chickens, phesants, ducks, quail and wild turkeys with the last two being raised for release back into the wild. I was on the County Fair board and also the County Agriculture board in TN.

Some of my friends think I have a vivid imagination and tell them tall tales, but I don't know what gave them that idea. I am a very quiet person and don't talk much and I would never tell them tall tales about bug poo and stuff like that.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Susie, no tall tales, huh? I am trying to figure out which parts of your bio to believe!

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3a)

Oh that is to funny if Cala made up her Bio, I love it!

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

OK, now you got me guessing. Went back and read Cala's bio again, and then it seemed like some of it could have been a s t r e t c h! Was it?

And what about you Joelle? What kind of work do you do on freight trains?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Oh Kell, I should have really embellished it! I told the truth and I could have really had you going. Now I will have to think and come up with a good one.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Now no one will believe you are a smart chemist type, Susie! LOL. Actually the only part I did not know was that you were an artist. We need to see proof of this before we believe you are! Post a pic!!

All the rest is the truth. Really is! All but that last paragraph about being quiet and not a teller of tall tales. Some of her less smart friends believed every single word of her bug poo stories. And I will never forgive her. LOL

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Cool reading about y'all! I was raised a Navy Brat and lived in Spain and France so speak (spoke) the languages and travelled a whole lot. I met my DH in Seattle 15 years ago where I was working in Sales for a large Printing Company and raising my son (from another...). Bob is an Environmental Chemical Engineer and not at all like anyone I had ever met...really smart!!! He hasdjust sailed around the world by himself and it had been my dream all my life...so in l993 we were married and bought the boat and in 1994 we took off: Alaska, Mexico, Central America, South America, Pitcairn, French Polynesia, etc....thu the S.Pacific. I loved it!

We decided that at 60 there were too many more adventures in life so we sold the boat and moved to (now) 12 acres on the E. side of the Big Island of Hawaii. Bob is a "do-er" so we have all kinds of house projects, farm projects... I started collecting Hoyas and they grew so fast I couldn't throw anything out so I grew more and...well...now I have a nursery business and am still passionate about lots of other tropicals. I have just started growing Brugs (Mel-TN got me hooked 3 years go) and I love growing just about anything!!! I collect the wierd! I paint watercolors, play with our two lab mix dogs (Thelma and Louise) and the cats (who think they are dogs). I love Hawaiiana (especially the music), am on the Bd. of Directors of our Community trying to get rid of Ice Houses here, am a Master Gardener, and am the social one of the two of us. Bob is happy with his tractor and his computer!!!

I am a terrible procrastinator, known as the "Advice Queen" in my family because I am always trying to help. I love gardens, making new friends. I can't sing but do it all the time...make "to do" lists that never get "to did" and have come to the place in my life that I don't HAVE to do anything...I want to want to do it!!!

And, when my time comes...I will be taken off kicking and screaming with more projects to finish!!!

I still can't throw any plants out, and Bob refuses to prune! A match made in heaven!

Edited for horrible grammer.

I remember Susie painting a brug or something on a tee shirt that we all wanted. Good thread Loretta. It's fun getting to know our fellow brug lovers.

Ok I am a true believer now Brugie! I had forgotten that. LOL

Gee, I think I have the most boring life compared to all of your life stories. I still have time to spice it up. I better get a plan and get going!

OFG, I am a conductor.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

I was raised a country girl and can't get away from the country. I was the oldest of six. I love gardening, both veggie and flower. My neighbor gave me a Brug cutting and I fell in love and wouldn't you know I'd find Suzie's site and thought I had to have one of all she had. I have five dogs that I accumulated from their owners throwing them out to starve and just gained the sixth one.
I had one son and one grandson and married my DH and gained a daughter and another son, five more grand children and DH's mother in law who is 93 now. I'm a workaholic as long as I can work outside. I love making baskets when I can get away from plants and I love to cook but don't like to have to clean up my mess. LOL

Moscow, TN(Zone 7a)

My goodness we have a lot of smart and talented people on this site.
Donna, you just tell your whole story and don't worry if you have before or not. Lots of folks here would love to get to know you.
I especially like to read about how people met their spouse and love stories.
PL-I came close to quitting my counseling program. Too much pressure to conform and label people.

Something else about me is I attract very unusual people. DH said I must have a homing device implanted on me. If there is hundred people in the room and a character walks in they will zero in and head right for me. lol

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

That is too darn cool, Joelle!

Perfect time as a newbie in this forum... Im sheran, from Los angeles, 46 have two boys, 18 studying as a music major--recipient of the louis armstrong award for jazz..
and my other son 27, made me a gramma for the first time... ahhh.

single, well kinda live with my almost dh, your all invited , later of this year.

Love helping others, and hold a few professional medical licenses, pharmacy, and paramedic.

I run a special care unit,,, for seniors-special care some with alz.

My garden is in a coop about 1000 sq ft. Love to garden --share seeds...
Im going to make an attempt at a brug!!!!!!!!

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

I think I'm pretty boring compared to y'all...
I also was raised a Navy brat, but didnt "travel the world" until my ex got stationed in Germany. We spent 3 years there and those were some of the best times in my life. Sure wish i would've known about brugs then, lol.
Moved back to the states in 91 and concentrated on raising the family, although sometimes i feel like i failed miserably. My boys are now 18 and 14. The youngest one keeps me busy with sports. He stands 6'2 and is awesome at basketball. The HS coach has already told him to keep his nose clean.
In 97 I got divorced AND remarried. Bill just kinda came to me (at a little league baseball game) and it was love at first sight. He's the best. He's been working in Iraq since 7/03 for Halliburton/KBR. He's not home nearly enough.
We have 2 cats, a min pin named roxie and 2 horses, Tina and Fancy. They keep me busy. Trying to break the filly is probably the most insane thing i've every encountered. But, they are my new found love. Bill and i hope to find some land far from here so that we can recognize the dream of having our own little hobby farm.
I don't have nearly enough time for gardening and have found myself giving away most of what i own. I've narrowed my list of what i want, concentrating more on varieties of select plants vs. having tons of things that don't interest me. Gardening seems to have taken a backseat to my health and the horses. Thank God my son also enjoys them because some days thats the only time we see each other.
Thanks for letting me share,
Jen
Oh, and i'm 36.

I am married awesome DH, have 2 dogs, 2 kids and 2 grandkids. Live in the country in a small village on 3 acres with a pond across the road from the house. We have been remodeling for the past 1 1/2 yrs and I think they are finally going to let me play in the dirt come spring. I tend to be on the quiet/shy side ... but am getting better. I work still and bowl. Love to garden, both flowers and veggies. I have made really great friends here, some I have been blessed to meet and some I am hoping to meet.

Moscow, TN(Zone 7a)

Sheran-Nice to meet you! The Louis Armstrong Jazz award, eh? Impressive. Wish I could play an instrument, the best I can do is the spoon, preferably a wooden one. lol

Ms Jen-I hear you. We got folks sailing off to exotic ports and all kinds of cool stuff. Since we put every penny we had or could scrape together in our house I can't afford a bus ticket to Tupelo.

WL-Your place sounds nice and peaceful. I would love to see a picture.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Deb's place is just amazing. Her new deck is huge with so much room for potted plants. And her yard is being beautifully laid out and terraced. And bestof all it is all dirt, begging to be planted. Come spring she will go nuts!! I have yard envy big time! Her front yard looks over a huge pond. Deb post some pics!!

Knoxville, TN

Wow, this is quite interesting! It is neat to read everyone’s history!

In 1977, I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Ornamental Horticulture and Landscape Design. Being a flower child of the 60’s-70’s, it was a natural progression. I worked the retail industry for a couple years then spent 10 years managing a Greenhouse/ Horticulture program for Mentally Retarded Adults. The next 13 years were spent learning and working with individuals with Disabilities and I earned my Masters Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling in 2002. Now, at 49 and holding, I am standing at a cross road wondering what I really want to do when I grow up!

Having worked in the Horticulture field for several years, I learned that plants/gardening was much more effective for eliminating stress when it is a hobby rather than a livelihood. That said, my hobby has become my passion and addiction. I have collected Tropical plants since I was a teenager and have always had more plants than places to put them! I got into Brugmansia 10 plus years ago when I found a CG at the winter Lawn and Garden Show. I was hooked after the first bloom. I got into Hoyas 3 years ago and that addiction has grown to the point of filling my sunroom/ greenhouse. I also collect aroids, , fragrant plants, big showy blooming plants and about anything else that grabs me or that I have not grown before.

I got to meet Susie in 03 after a heated, and not so nice, introduction on the GW Brug forum. I had taken a hiatus from Brugs until she started filling my car with new varieties each time I visited her. I had NEVER met a more generous grower nor kind and giving friend! Then she moved to Texas, which left me with no one to blame for bringing home new plants!

I have a wonderful DH who never says a negative word about my plant addiction and even builds structures to support my habit. He built my sunroom, greenhouse, a huge steel light cart, put in a pool, monster deck and two ponds. Each summer, my suburban yard transforms into a tropical paradise where I spend 90% of my free time.

I have an adorable 18 year old son who could not be a nicer kid. We are incredibly close and all his friends call me Mom. My kid has more insight into life than I ever had at his age! I also have 2 other kids who are actually Dogs but they don’t know it. Plus, we have a rabbit who thinks he is a Dog, fish, and lots of wildlife that is attracted to our overgrown yard.

I sell a few plants on occasion, but, give away many more than I ever sell. I don’t think any of my gardening friends have ever left my house without a plant and most leave with a flat full of plants. I am a firm believer that you reap what you sow in life as well as plants.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

What a lovely story, meltn. You are truly blessed and a blessing to all that know you. I am glad I got the chance. :Donna

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Hi, I have really enjoyed reading all of your posts. Let's see, I am basically a very shy person, and check out this site daily, although I don't post alot. I belong to several groups, and it just doesn't seem like there is enough time to get to all of them each day.

I am a 54 yr. old mother of 4.I met my husband when I was 16 years old and a junior in high school and have been married for 34 years . I was blessed with 3 daughters and a son , whom we lost in a car accident 7 yrs. ago. But God is good and blessed us with three grandson's that same year, each born to a different daughter. We also have three lovely grandaughters.

I was a stay at home mom as my kids grew up, but when the last one moved out of the house, I went to school to get my travel agent certification. I did that for a few years, but after losing Jerod, I decided that I wanted more time to spend with my grandchildren. I have always spent alot of time with them either babysitting or just playinng with them. My oldest grandaughter and I have tea party's several times a year, and it is always a very special time for me.

I love to grow annuals, Perennials, and have always been an avid gardener. Then I got hooked on Brugmansia,s and hoya's and morning glory's. Now I have a greenhouse that is loaded to the rafters with about 250 hoya plants and other tropicals , along with many, many brug. cuttings that are in the rooting process. I keep wondering what I have gotten myself into. It now takes me a couple hours just to water all the plants and that doesn't include the constant search for pests.

I love to travel with my husband, and we are planning a trip to the holy land this Spring with a group from our church as well as a early Fall trip to Ireland.

I also love to cook, fish, camp, sew , although I don't seem to have alot of time for any particular hobby anymore except for my hoya's and brugs.

Well, that is all I can think of at the moment.

Redlands, CA(Zone 10a)

Such wonderful notes for everyone. I feel ashamed that I can't post anything very positive about myself. I'll try, however, but truthfully it's been a hard road for me. I'm married to a wonderful lady whose sweeter than a baby's laughter and have three children. I have always been a gardener and my name shows that my family has been too. I have degrees in art, music, philosophy, English literature, telecommunications, horticulture, and botany as well as multi-media computer production. I was an exceptional artist until about 15 years ago when I gave up growing and smoking dope.I followed the Grateful Dead for four years but finally got tired of waking up with women whose armpit hair was so long it looked like they had two rabbis in a headlock. I also didn't fit in because I HAD to have a shower every day. I stayed in college because I have an addiction to always try to know more. The funny thing is that I've learned that the more you know, the more you realize just how little you know. I play the bagpipes as does my little brother and love to wear the kilt. Needless to say, Smoke on the Water played on pipes is an acquired taste and Proud Mary is just plain wrong. I now work with developmentally disabled adults, teaching landscaping techniques and placing them in jobs in the public sector. We have people working here that are severely disabled either physically or mentally and they find it very difficult to support themselves now since Wal-Mart and McDonalds have given up hiring them. I have guys on my crews that won't start working till they get a hug and these are the people that make my life bearable. Alot of them are the hardest working , most focused people you will ever meet and it breaks my heart that the people in power are cutting funding to the programmes that allow them to maintain some semblance of dignity. After a hard life I know now that we are all put here to make each other's lives more meaningful. It's taken a lifetime for me to learn this and I am glad that I can pass it along to you. As far as work , I look forward to everyday teaching and improving lives.I am studying for an Agricultural Pest Control Adviser's License to add to the Bachelor's in Hort and then I'm going for my Irrigation Tech license so we can continue getting our people placed at the state and college that we have been getting. Thank you to everyone here for showing me that even though we've never met, we ARE friends.-Garth

I love reading everyone's stories.

Garth, Bless you for the work you're doing. I agree that our government won't take care of it's own. It's a shame. I loved the humor in your post. LOL You've came a long way. Hat's off to you.
