I think it was Brugie who had mentioned it before, but not sure. You add it to the soil for your indoor plants, as well as Brugs that have been brought indoors. I'd like to go buy some but want to make sure I get the right thing.
Need name of Pesticide for Indoors
Karrie, what I use is a Bonide product and I believe it is just called Systemic Houseplant Insect Control. You will probably be able to find it at HD.
I never could find it Brugie. I looked. Poor me.
I use Rose Pride By Ortho. It's systemic pest control and fertilizer.
I found the Bonide product at Home Depot today. I just watered the brugs yesterday, so I will wait a day or two before using it. I did remove most of the leaves as well, yesterday, because the aphid problem was OUT OF CONTROL - eggs galore - disgusting. I then, AGAIN, sprayed them with palmolive/peroxide and even sprayed the soil. I also took 3 cuttings, stripped the leaves and cleaned them really good and put them in water, just in case these bigger plants don't survive the infestation.
Will the aphids die if they can no longer feed on the plant? I don't want them in my house! Makes me itch just thinking about it.
Oh, I also bought this other stuff, that is a concentrate that you dilute and spray. It's called "Bioganic" Oraganic Insect Control, and made by Green Light. It is derived from plant & tree oils. Let me tell ya, it STINKS! Smells like Vicks! I sprayed all of the downstairs houseplants with that tonight, and everyone in the house was gagging. It better do the trick after that, lol!
Inside, I just wash the aphids off under the faucet. If the plant is too big, I then use diluted Palmolive. I use my fingers to make sure I get them all.
My enemies are mites and fungus gnats. I loath them. That is worse than hating them!!
I know what you mean - I had spider mites on one variety this last summer. What is so weird, is the ones that had the spider mites, aren't getting the aphids. But the ones that did well during the summer (my Isabella X's) are just having a dreadful time with aphids, indoors.
I have some bad back and neck problems, and the plants are upstairs, so I can't move them down to the shower to spray them off. That would have been nice, for sure.
Hopefully I can call myself "armed and dangerous" with the stuff I bought today and get this problem tackled.
They haven't got to my cuttings that I've potted, and I've kept them away from the infested plants. But I'm going to give ALL of them, including the cuttings, a dose of this Bonide just to play it safe. They are up in my bedroom right now (the sunroom is too cold) and I don't dare spray that stinky Vicks smelling stuff in there - I might get kicked out of the house, lol!
Only things I have is those pesky gnats, I use Gnotrol every time I water, and I also spray with Raid House and Garden that lists the gnates, at least I am not seeing them fly around any more, but I know there are still some around as I have a lot of those sticky cards laying on the pots, and catch them, I found if you cut those cards in half, cut the bottom off, you have four strips in place of one, and can lay them on the soil.
Do these same products work on the aphids AND the spider mites? i think kell was right with her diagnosis of sm on my Jessie Noel - I didn't actually see them since there are NO LEAVES LEFT on my poor girl, but I did notice a bit of "webbing". I thought it was just dust, but...?
Grrrr - now I have to make sure they don't spread! Always something...!
The products I bought say they work for both aphids, mites & also white flies and some other insects. I know what you mean, Sequee - "always something......"
The Bonide is for indoor use only, and the other one I listed can be used indoors our outdoors, and also be used on vegetables, as it is organic - but it IS stinky! :-)
I got the Bonide at Home Depot and the Bioganic at Lowes.
I bought everything known to mankind for my whiteflies last year and NOTHING worked! I just went and looked at what I have here in the office (Shultz Bug Spray) and it says indoor/outdoor and lists spider mites. Guess I'll start with what I have and go from there - grrrr! I invested in all sorts of carnivorous babies, and they seem to have helped with the gnats and fruit flies, but, hey! It's the middle of winter - shouldn't these guys just die off or something???
They don't do that if they are indoors where it is warm and have food. And they just want to multiply if you don't kill them. Next year I am going to hose all these babies off REAL good before daring to bring them indoors.
Actually, I am hoping to find a greenhouse around here that will rent me some space for next year - I have too many of them now for the house after they reach their full size. That will help as far as the house goes, but I will still have to drive there all of the time to take care of them.
Wow - sure sounds like a hassle. You are one dedicated gardener!
Nah - I just love my brugs, lol
So Bonide says it kills mites? Can you post a pic of it? PLEASE. I must have missed it at HD!

We threw our broken digital camera away and haven't got a new one yet. I found this on the internet - wasn't easy to find.
Karrie
p.s. It was about $5.00 per bottle.
It kills: Aphids, Scale, Spider Mites, lace Bugs, Leafhoppers, Mealybugs, Thrips & Whiteflies.
And I thank you for your trouble, Karrie!! Maybe now I can find it. THANKS
no problemo! It's easier to find what you are looking for when you know what it looks like.
