Does anyone have any Ecuador Pink Brug. seeds to spare? I will happily send postage money. I hear that they would do well in Tucson AZ where I live. I would need directions on planting the seeds too. I am just finding out this whole new world!
ecuador pink seeds??
You would need a cutting of the brug to have Ecuador Pink. Seeds from her do not make an EP brug, but a cross. I'd help, but I gave my EP away this year.
I have three cuttings in water now. If that will help.
Ok - this leads me to a question.
Can you cross one Equador Pink with another Equador Pink to get EP seeds?
I have noticed people selling these types of seeds on E-Bay, not even mentioning crosses.
Hey Tar,
Can you remember to save one for me NEXT year? I have my hands full of cuttings right now, but know I will want to add to my collection next year. Next year I am hoping to add one of these as well as an Isabella.
Nope Carrie, it won't work. Sorry.
Can do .
I love EP!! I received a rooting last spring, and a limb knocked it almost half into and I planted the broken part, which grew bigger than the rooting the two of them bloomed off and on all season; however, they did not get HUGE like my Rosamond and PB, who are giants. Is that just the nature of EP, which is what it appears to me, or were my medium plants an exception??? TIA!!
I can't believe I actually have two of the brugs mentioned in this thread! I have 2 EPs rooting very well, and one Isabella. If these bad boys keep going the way they are I will be more than happy to share cuttings next year! :) I also have a Candita Double White, but I have read some posts here from more experienced brug folks who don't seem too impressed with her. But I also have several Snow White's growing. Is that one any better? My other cuttings are an unknown pink (several of those) and an unknown gold. I can't wait to see what those turn out to be! Then I am trying to grow out some seeds someone sent me. I planted 12 and if even one germinates I will be thrilled!!!!
Good Luck Texasgarden! I would recommend you always plant more seeds than you want plants. Some won't germinate probably, and then along the way a few always die it seems. If you end up with too many later on you can always gift a few.
I have never been a fan of EP though I will say I have seen gorgeous pictures on here of it in full bloom and if mine looked like that I would change my mind! I think it is too cool here in summer for it. I left my EPs out this winter and so far so good. They did drop most of their leaves but still are fine. I was surprised!
Karrie, I haven't heard how your daughter is for a while. I certainly hope it is good news.
Did you get your rockwool?
Jeanette
Jnette, Katie has been home for over a week and is doing much better - she has her energy back (for sure) and looks better. Let's just keep our fingers crossed - there are alot of bugs out there right now. Her room is getting new paint and carpeting, because the old carpet in there is effecting her lungs. Weird, huh?
I wonder why these people are selling seeds like that on E-Bay. I did see a very pretty white & blue brug plant on there going for .63 cents.
Buy it Karrie.............ASAP!!
Karrie, glad to hear Katie is feeling better. I hope she continues to do better.
Kell - well what do ya know - it's not there anymore. I think I saw it a couple of days or so ago, and felt kinda sorry for the seller - it said there were only a couple days left for the auction. I hope the seller got more than .63 for it - not even worth posting on EBay and going through the trouble for all that! If I were to ever post something for auction on Ebay, I wouldn't start it at zero, but give a good but "sale" starter price and let people go for it from there.
Wish it were still there so I could post the link for you. I would have let you go for it, as I have my fill of Brugs for this year, and then would hint for a cutting from it next year. :-) Bambi or Paula posted a pic of one once that had tiny purplish blooms but bazillions of them, that I found very pretty as well.
I'm also interested in finding some red ones - the larger red ones, like you've come up with. Very pretty. Are they fragrant?
Karrie
I now have in my collection: whites, yellows, pinks, peach, light orange
(Isabella X - white, Suave X - not sure, Cherokee, Whiskers, Super Nova, Herrenhäuser Gärten, Creamsickle, & Golden Lady. But no reds and no blues or purples which I think must be a rarity.) I'd like to get as many colors as I can to try crossing with others for fun.
I'll keep my eye on Ebay to see if that one Brug get's reposted.
There are no BLUE brugs...and the closest thing to a red brug. is a sang. cinnabor..p.s.. any one that says they have blue or red is trying to sell water to whales cinnabor
To add to the last post there are no seeds that will be like the parent all will be crosses....of two There are many books on hybridizing. cinnabor
I saw a few out there that say "red seeds." They do show pictures of what appears to be red brugs, but I don't know what makes it a "real" red or blue. However, it makes me wonder if these people are taking seeds from those plants and selling them like that. Not that they would do it intentionally, but just not understand that you cannot grow a brug from the parent plant's seeds and that to get a replica of that plant, you have to grow it from a cutting. Here is a dumb question- if you don't do any kind of cross pollination, will your brug form seed pods? I understand that those seeds will not produce that same brug, but do they even MAKE seeds if you don't pollinate them? If you have more than one brug growing is it possible that they will cross pollinate on their own and make a mystery brug?
Karrie, I wonder if it was a Iochroma species. They have small flowers and there are lots of them. They come in lots of colors too. I have seen them on ebay and the guy says they are like small brugs.
Texasgardener, only pollinated blooms pod. But bees, moths or even you can do the pollination. it is fun and easy!
The red seeds are probably from Sanguineas. They are orange to red in color usually! They along with Arboreas self pollinate. However, the other kinds of brugmansia need cross pollination to get pods.
Thanks Kell! So, if you know that you did NOT pollinate a bloom, but it forms a pod, do you just ignore it? Has anyone ever harvested and grown the seeds just to see what happens? That would be me- I won't do it on my own but if two of mine did it on their own, I might be tempted to see what happens. :) If that is the case, do you just call it "Name of Mother Plant" x "Unknown?" Another question is this- if you took one the pollen from one brug and pollinated several blooms of another, each seed you get is considered a separate plant, correct? Wouldn't they all look very similar?? Or is it like humans where 2 people can have more than one child that look nothing alike? Do I ask too many questions? Ha!
Maybe that is what I saw. Who cares if they aren't Brugs - they were beautiful and I'd definitely want them in my gardens.

YEP - here is the pic I was thinking of - Bambi had posted it - just gorgeous.

lochroma is really a beaut. We will have to see how will tlhey look with Big Mama Brugs.
Those are really pretty!
I'm wondering also how fragrant they are. Anyone know?
They aren't fragrant. I have only had a few of them and didn't get much bloom from any but the red one.

Well, considering most of the plants I will have on my porch area will be heavily scented, having just one of those that isn't probably wouldn't hurt. I just love them. Has anyone had success with getting ALOT of blooms from the lochroma? Is there a special secret to it? I'd really like to try this one out if it is possible to get alot of blooms. So very pretty.
