Cannas do very well here. LIve in Tucson AZ. Am starting to get interested in "highly fragrant semi-tropicals and tropicals that would do well here, esp. that you can smell from a distance. Any ideas?
semi-tropicals and tropicals for 9a and 9b??
Hedychiums are something to look into for fragrance.

I posted a link to this on the other post you made, but here it is again. They list all kinds of tropicals and also will tell you what does good in Arizona. http://deserttropicals.com/
I would also visit some of your Botanical Gardens...private gardens too...for ideas. The main thing I see lacking is humidity...but you can get around that for some things. Brugmansias have a tropical look to them and some are extremely fragrant!
Brugs might grow there if it isn't too hot, but they too, do best with some humidity. I think the spider mites would drive you crazy on them without it. Just my opinion, even tho they are my favorite flower right now. LOL! If you want to try some from seed, drop me a note.
