I wonder why winter growth is so light yellow!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

On all my brugs, all the new growth is a light yellow. No green at all. Must be the cold.

Except my sang is still a deep green.

Hi Kell! My Sang died for some reason, but some of my brugs have yellow leaves like yours, especially my Charles Grimaldi. I think you are right that it might be the cold. These yellow leaves eventually drop and nice new ones come in. I do put a little powder iron chelate around the base just to help the new ones that come in be greener.

Are you storming there? See the storm behind the brug? It is so wet here. Brutal!

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Kell, yes, brutal is right. It has been raining here for about three weeks straight with only a break here and there. It's raining now, and this last storm dropped a lot of water. I have so many brugs in containers which are just getting soaked. I'm not really worried about the ones in the ground, but the containers are getting water-logged, I'm sure. That's a nasty storm that you got a picture of.

Gosh, three weeks of rain would drive me almost as crazy as all this ice and snow. I hope some of it will melt off tomorrow. When is your winter over out there?

that's odd, kell. fwiw, my new growth is normal, but not nearly as green as your sang. babysitting 2 lab babies, they are asleep on me and i'm typing with one hand. their first names are frank and jesse. their last name is pinkus. cute, sweet cho babies...hope you find the problem.

That's a nasty looking storm, Kell. Hope the sun shines soon for you and Clare.

Hi Shirley, It has been kind of depressing not seeing the sun for three weeks and not being able to play in the garden. I do a lot of container gardening, and the trouble with containers is that the plants can get too much water very quickly, and then the cold nighttime temperatures come, and that is when some things can become affected negatively. I have a gardenia which might not make it. I should have moved it sooner than I did. I think spring starts March 20th.

Awe, Sherry, that is great.

Thanks, Ada.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I'll bet you are getting depressed over the weather. It would be hard with container gardening. I have a lot of potted plants in the garage and I have to be careful to not give them too much water. At least I can control the amount of moisture they get. It would be rough with three weeks of rain. March 20th is too far away for me. I'm ready right now!!

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Hi Shirley, I am definitely depressed. I was reading Kell's diet thread, and I got even more depressed because I am totally turning to comfort food every chance I get and will need to go on a diet soon! I'm ready for spring too. I moved what containers I could, but there are too many big 15-gallon containers with brugs which are too heavy to move now that they are water-logged. I'm afraid it will be survival of the fittest come spring.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I wish you lots of luck Clare. I'm trying to lose some weight. There are a few of us that are leaning on each other for moral support. My first week was good, but it always is. LOL!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Clare, i know how you feel about all the rain. We had so much this past year. I lost lots of plants due to being waterlogged and veggies washed away or covered from dirt washing over them. I hope your weather gets better soon.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

LOL, Shirley. Moral support is a great idea. I'm so glad that you are all right and made it through that health scare. I have the South Beach diet book too and will probably do that as well as increase my exercising at the gym. I'm sure you will be successful.

Thanks, Ada. I'm sorry about all the plants you lost. It is hard to garden when the elements won't cooperate. I think Monday or Tuesday should be the last day of rain for a little while. Is that what you have heard, Kell?

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Clare, I hope it stops soon. A lot of rain can fall in two days.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

There was such a downfall tonight the street filled right up with water. It could not get down the storm drains fast enough. I always worry about the raccoons on days like this. I wonder if they climb out of the drain pipes in time. Or are they out there in the bay trying to swim home?

Clare, I will probably tip my pots over tomoorw so no more rain goes into them. I did that least year and it worked great. Just do not leave them down too long for they do start getting problems being so close to the wet ground after a few weeks.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

I put Press and Seal around some of mine when we were having so much rain. That can get costly. LOL

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

Sorry about your weather problems kell, I was about to send you a truckload of rain by UPS but they wouldn' take it, don't know why. I am like Brugie just waiting for spring, and as for dieting, I should but winter is a bad time to try that, too much time spent at the puter.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

We are having the rain also, but not as much as the others...I kind of like it too! Let's me stay indoors with a good excuse!!!
My only brug that was outdoors in a container is now keeping me company indoors!!!
I also have a small snow cone cutting blooming that is on the window sill & my PS brug "painting" in a frame that I am trying out for color frame...
What do you think??? Am I am brug addict or what???
Margie
BTW...I need to get ready for another birthday lunch out...no diets yet for me!

Im sorry for all that rain for you guys! Those clouds just look scarey!

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Thanks, Kell, that is a great idea. That Press and Seal is a good idea too, Ada. Before I read your great ideas, I was out this morning, hauling as many containers as I could in under the eave, but there are just too many to do. My plumerias are in containers and getting drenched also, but they have really good drainage so I'm not too worried about that. My tuberose bulbs look pretty sad right now. I sure hope that some made it. It has been pouring down all night, and as I was watch tv last night, flash flood warnings kept appearing across the screen for my Ventura County and Santa Barbara County. The streets were flooded here too, and my backyard is pretty much a pond right now. I tried to rescue some earthworms which were just swimming around in the water. Kell, I hope the racoons are okay too. Animals are pretty smart, I think, when it comes to the elements. I hope they found a safe place to wait out these storms.

Happy Birthday, Margie! Have lots and lots of yummy stuff for your birthday lunch.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Don't worry about the raccoons, kell, they are here with me, two visiting tonight. Take care of yourself and yours, and them brugs! My Arroyo Grande, doggie pal, is bailing water to keep it from coming into her carport, which is thisclose to her back door.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Clare and Kell, I hope the rains stop real soon.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Thanks, Ada. I think we're due for two more days of it at least.
