Hello all. We are just starting our gardening and would like to learn about seed collecting and growing. Though we are landscaping with native California plants, there will be pots here and there and a small veg patch and herb garden. Hopefully next year I will have lupine and other wild flower seeds to trade, too.
To start with, we would like to plant:
echinacea (coneflower) -- not too tall, yellow or pink would be nice
nasturtiums
tomatoes
lettuce
herbs (dill, parsley, etc.)
Oh, and good wishes for our new endeavor -- my thumb has never been green, but I'm always willing to try again!

Newbie - coneflower, nasturtium, herb & veg seeds wanted
Thanks, Sheran!
Nice to see someone else in the '10' zone!
sheran,
Bonsall is between Fallbrook and Oceanside [what is called North County in the San Diego area] -- about 11 mi. in from the coast.
kaperc, I collected lots of mixed nasturtium seed last fall. Send me an email if your want some.
kaperc,
I have so many seeds for Pink/Purple Coneflower....if you want some, send me an SASBE and I will send you a bunch of them.
Melva
Thanks, Melva. I have your address and will send SASBE.
Good! I used to live in San Diego...Pt Loma is where I grew up...Once you get the Coneflower started, you will have seeds to trade and/or give away, trust me, on this! LOL!
Melva,
Pt. Loma is a beautiful place. We started in Solana Beach, moved to La Costa, then got our own place here in Bonsall. It's great being in the country where we can do whatever we like on our own place. It's our retirement home, so we're trying to make the landscape as simple as possible -- though we all know how that goes!
Cheers!
Here's our Christmas card -- which we thought reflected our expanded roles in life.
Thanks, Sheran!
Put him in a lounge chair eating something you grew! LOL
Actually, my DH is not a big gardener, either. However, he enjoys the building and creating parts and will help with the gardening in payment for the privilege of living where we do. We planned on getting a much smaller piece of land, but we all know about plans... :-)
Ah, yes, he has that 'this is where I was meant to be' look that men get when they put their feet up!
I got to thinking more about that photo -- how about a rose in his teeth?
