Hi everyone,
I am wondering if it is too early to start my DL seeds inside ?
Does anyone know how fast they might grow until I can plant them outside in April/May here in Zone 4a ?
Most likely they will either bloom out of season or not at all this first year BUT I am so anxious to get startet :-)
Thanks in advance,
Brigitte
Has anyone startet their DL seeds yet ?
Why don't you just plant them outside and they will come up when it warms. I think this sounds like the easiest way to do it. Just my thoughts.
HoniBee,
Hi , I really want to give them a headstart because it will be a while until I can get seeds into the ground around here,

What are DL seeds?
Like Honibee said, put them in the ground for the winter, then when they sprout they will take off.. Some I planted 2 months ago are growing like weeds, some that were planted 2 weeks ago are out of the soil, all are just sitting out in the yard and will stay there til time to transplant.. The cold is great for them.

Windy..daylily seeds
Daylily (Hemerocallis) seeds. I started a few-- I just couldn't stand it and had to see something green! LOL!
But for the majority of them I will wait until the middle of February or so to plant them. Giving them a head start really doesn't seem to count for much in the North. They won't really "take off" until you get them into the ground.
I have 32 different crosses and 222 seeds picked out for 2005.
Wow--Indashade, you are going to have lots of new DL's. I planted some in my friends shed(kind of a greenhouse) in the fall and they are doing great. I am not into dabbing, but someone sent me these that I started.

Hi Brigette....I started some seeds indoors here (zone 5) the beginning of January. It will be three years before I see a bloom on any of them. I've never tried starting them outdoors here in zone 5. I'd say its risky with the thawing and freezing that continually goes on. I'd say go ahead and start your seeds as long as they've been stratified for a minimum of 3-6 weeks.
You might want to post your question at the daylily or propagation forum for more input.
