Help with identity

Dayton, TX(Zone 9a)

Could someone help me identify this brug? It is full of blooms in the greenhouse today. I would like to mark it for the future crosses I plan to make. (don't have a clue how to do it but I am going to give it a try) Ruth

My guess would be Isabella. However, someone said someplace that Frosty Pink has leaves that are wavy on the edge, so that could be it also. I'm just a guesser. Not good at making positive ID, especially with the suaveolens and insignis.

Ruth she is gorgeous :)

She looks like 'Adora' to me, but then again, there are so many out there that look alike. One of the things I liked about her was her pretty tendrils and wavey edge. She got darker as the night went on....

Here's Adora:

My first guess was Isabella. My Adora looked like a big flat flying saucer, but never got as dark pink as your pics', nor did it have long tendrils. I am thinking it is a hybrid, somebody crossed one to another for those long tendrils.

Ruth: Do you know where it came from and did they have a name for it, or was it a seedling?

Dayton, TX(Zone 9a)

My mom bought it from Parks as a small cutting and it was just sold as "a peach". Here is another one if it helps.

It probably can't be positively identified. There are growers/sellers out there that just propagate like crazy to make some money and names don't mean anything to them. I could be a Frosty Pink or it could be just a look alike. Maybe something else. I seriously doubt there is a way to tell for sure. You will find that a lot of the older crosses gave results like the one you have. It's pretty, so I would just enjoy.

Thanks for the info. After reading this forum for the past 3 months, I know a lot more about what I should and shouldn't do. But I am enjoying it. It has no smell though. I am anxious for one that smells.

Ruth, you have mail.

I don't believe its Isabella as the edge is too wavy; and both Isabella and Frosty have lovely fragrances, so my guess would be that its a Frosty look-alike. There are so many... As Brugie said, you can certainly enjoy her for her beautiful blooms!

It looks like my Isabella. Is the plant tall? Mine are.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

I remember Datdog posting a picture of a peach called Halo Peach she purchased from Park's. It had wavy edges like that.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Ruth, was that a cutting or a seedling? If a seedling, who did you get the seeds from? It looks so much like mine, but mine were white blooms. However, I was told that since mine bloomed late (Sept & Oct) that next year it may show a different color.

Dayton, TX(Zone 9a)

Well, it was a small three inch stick stuck in the pot and she paid about 29.00 for 3. Mine and my mom's has bloomed but I think the 3rd died. It is 2 years old and a very spindlely shrub. The limbs go ever which a way and are very crooked and thin. But the blooms are very pretty.

Your Brug is very pretty, Ruth. It's amazing what some people will charge for things. I'm so grateful to have found such a great community of gardeners here at Dave's. Good luck to you finding a Brug that smells nice. That's my goal, too!

It could be Halo Peach. Parks sold one by that name last year. It was really pink instead of peach and mine did not have very long tendrils. Mine did not do well in the high heat and humidity here....it never did really open up completely. However, I have seen pictures of others that did. They were quite pretty.

Reading this post and thinking about my own brug given to me as "insigni pink" (NOT)
I wonder if someday there could be genetic testing for the true identity of brugs!
This is my IPN- I call her Insigni Pink Not...

LOL Margie. Your IPN looks more like CG to me. Definitely not pink. Pretty, whatever it is.

Ruth, it is quite lovely and If it didn't come with a name it would probably be hard to give it one. As picturelady shows above, even when they come with a name it isn't always what it's called. This one was sold to me as Frosty Pink.

Brugie...the gal that gave it to me said that she also had CG and Dr.Suess...does it look more like one of them?

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

however, the leaves are not wavy so I was told that it was a Frosty Pink Lookalike

I love it anyway, and now I call it 'Frosty NOT'

Picturelady, this is my Dr Seuss. My Charles Grimaldi is getting ready to open in the gh. I think there's a lot of confusion between the two, and I also think Dr Seuss has smooth edge leaves and CG has serrated leaf edges.

I believe it is the other way around. Suess/serrated and CG/smooth edges. Kyle always told me it was this way anyway. Kick my rear if I'm wrong. LOL!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

I was just going to look at mine to see...now which is it? Which has serrated leaves and which smooth??? :-P...this is not helping!!! LOL

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

I have Dr Suess that Susie gave me and it has serrated leaves.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Well, maybe my Seuss is a Seuss NOT, I'll have to take a closer look at the leaves. I do have Charles Grimaldi in the gh getting ready to bloom, I'll check those leaves too.
