Free offer to new gardeners who are willing to try out some new seeds - note, none of them are super fresh, no guarantees but they're free if you want to try -- see below for requirements. :-))
I spent the past couple of years collecting seeds then moved to Ireland so no opportunity to garden much for the next couple of years. I can always collect more when I return to the US – So, since many of my seeds come from lovely people from DG, it seems most fitting that this is where I give the seeds back. Some are collected from my garden, some were purchased. It's a hodge podge of seeds - something many of you are probably familiar with – lots of folks have seed drawers.
This is exactly like that nightmare story of getting a Christmas gift and giving it back to the same person - difference here - I WANTED most of these seeds, just never got the chance to plant them because I moved. So, yes - you might recognize a few names on some of the packets, but it's because I saved them in anticipation of planting them - but, since I can't, the best thing I can do is give them to someone who will plant them.
On a recent trip back to the States I packed up my collection and want to pass them along to new gardeners who will enjoy them rather than let them waste away. Note – some of these are not new seeds (some packets are opened, some a bit wrinkled, some recycled – but, they’re free and yours to try). They’ve been kept cool and dry and should be fun to try out. No promises - but, you might be pleasantly surprised. Some are common, some are more desirable - one of the reasons I traded for or purchased them (***sob sob**). My loss, your gain. And please understand, some are not “nicely packaged”, but, I’ve always tried to recycle coin envelopes, especially when gathering from the garden. So, if you’re looking for something to sell on eBay, these are not what you’re looking for.
So, here is the deal – a dozen or so packets to members < 6 months who have introduced themselves in the Welcome Mat forum. Don’t be shy – if you see something, post for it.
Please post what you want to THIS thread and not via email so I can ensure first come, first serve. If I run out of new members, I’ll give the remainder to others who want them. And hopefully when I move back to the US, I can beg for a few seeds to get started again.
So – if you’re new to DG, have posted to Welcome Mat I’d like to share my seeds with you.
Post what you want on this thread. When I have your selection set aside, I will email you for your address – no postage, nothing, just my way of saying Welcome to DG.
Heck, if you are new and haven't posted to the Welcome Mat, but want some seeds - go over there and introduce yourself ... you'll find a bunch of friendly folks to welcome you and some seeds from me to nurture the way.... And yep, I’ll go check to see if you did post…*grin*
Cheers!
Sandra
Here’s the list – I’ll mark out the items when people request them. I will send them when I return to the US on January 27 to minimise the risk of them being lost in the mail. No fair laughing at the typo’s – I went off what I have written down….

But I want to say
I miss you Snowdra!!!!!
kareoke - Welcome - nice to meet you! Updated. Will contact you for an address.
Hi maineroses - Nice to meet you, too! I haven't traded in over a year - since I left the US. let's give it a few days, and if there are any left, I'll let you know. I'd like to give as many away to newcomers as possible - I remember when I started here at DG with nothing and there were so many people who were generous.
tundrachik - !!!!!heya there!!!! Yeah, I decided to have a "going out of country sale" - a bit late, but I was feeling guilty because I could not plant the seeds. How crowded is the greenhouse this year? *grin*
Hey, Dublin...been trading here since September...and these $#@^% people have made me a BAD girl!!! I have become a Trumpet Flower Fool! (Suound SO much nicer than JUNKIE, doesn't it???)
If you part with a few Datura - Lemon Lily and Wrightii, I would be happy to trade, beg, borrow, steal, or do tricks for them!
LMK know if you will grant my wish!
Sequee - they're yours. No begging, trading, etc. - just take pity on me when I am seedless and move back to the US and start hitting the SASE threads.
I'll send you D. Lilac La Fleur, D. Wrightii, and the Lemon Day lily (the lemon is NOT a datura - you're sure you still want it, right?)
I dont ned to be Ms. Piggy - I have lots od daylilies, so I will pass on that. I would be interested in yor Iceplant (Aptenia ), though, if you have enough to share ~:-)))
Also, is the Lisyrinchium Arenarium a succulent? I couldn't find it in the DG Plant list.
PS - Be sure to look me up when you come back to the good ole US od A, and I will do right by you! In fact, if you move to NY, CT or NJ I'll even come help you move in!
Sequee - Oops, probably a typo - let me see if I can find it and do a search.
Ummmmmmm - yep, typo: sisyrinchium arenarium.
http://www.ujf-grenoble.fr/JAL/chili/plantes/floreP0_EG.htm
I'll almost certainly move back to Albany - I left a significant other, two dogs and a house -- so I think they're expecting me to return home eventually....
You want both the sisyrinchium arenarium and Aptenia Cordifelia?
Hi Sandra,
I was in Ireland 2 years ago and absolutely loved it. Once I got out of Dublin I found such lovely flowers. But the real flowers of Ireland were the people. They were so friendly and since I wasn't on a tour, I had a chance to meet some lovely people.
I would love to try the following seeds:
56 Dill (Bouquet)
58Geranium Pyrenaicum Album
31 Cleome – mixed
32 Coleus (Giant Exhibition, Limelight) - unopened packet from Park Seeds
33 Coleus (Giant Exhibition, Palisandra) - unopened packet from Park Seeds
Thanks for sharing. LMK when you are back and need seeds. ;o)
SmilinLdy - yes, Ireland is lovely. People ask whether I like Dublin - I just smile and say I like Ireland better... I've loved this country for quite a while - first visited here in 1998, then visited every year until I moved. I tell ya, when I saw the job offer, I jumped on it for the chance to live here. Seeds are updated and they're yours!
Sandra
Yes, thank you very much! That would be wonderful! Can I at least send you postage?
What do you do that you were able to transfer to Ireland? Where does one even look for offfers abroad. I had an Unlce who went to Ireland for 6 weeks to track down the family history - came back with many a tale of great hospitality - a screaming hangover! Seems like there were entirely too many friendly Murphys!
Hi!I would love to have some!It is so nice of you to give away seeds like this. Thanks so much!

Hi Chelsea - I'll put you down for the first dozen on your list and if I don't get any takers by the end of the week, I'll put you down for the rest of the ones you asked for.
Glad you're enjoying Dave's!
Hi! I would love to try the following, but I'm so new to DG that this is the first time I've even heard of the Welcome Mat. How do I find it? I will gladly go there and post! Thanks, Tanya

Hee, hee! Aren't fingers wonderful things???
Thanks found it! My address is in the exchange or you can e-mail me for it.
Tanya
Pd - Do you still have those 2 Moonvine seeds sitting around feeling sorry for themselves??? If so, toss them in and I will send you a lovely photo when they magically grow for me. I was going to pass since I've had such rotten luck growing vines from suttings I've received, but then I realized that these are surely the lucky 2 seeds...after all, It is the luck o the Irish, no...
Grin - they're yours. I might even throw in some other MG's from a certain country that I used to collect... LOL - well, I used to collect the seeds, not the country...that was out of my price range and not for sale.
Oh wow! Just stumbled into this! How sweet of you to do this sbarr. I would like to try your:

Gwen - so nice to see you here! I know you are just starting to plant in your new home and I'm sure these will be a blessing to you! Can hardly wait to see photos of your "cottage" this Spring. Aren't you just dying to see what all you have? I am so envious that you have so many beds and a (gasp!) greenhouse...NOT FAIR!
Good luck!
I know I'm not a new Dg`er but... if you don't get any takers for that Lavender Moonvine... may I give it a go? I've never seen a lavender one before. Only if you don't get any takers though. I'd offer you seeds for trade...but looks like you can't plant anything yet.
Just asking. :-D
mydaisy - Welcome! you're all set - I'll send an email for your address.
Gwendalou - sure - I think I have most of those available. Pick a dozen from the ones still in bold and let me know which you want! Note - mydaisy beat you to the parsley and lilac by a few minutes.
Sandra
Hi crimson - Sequee claimed them, so, if she's a hugely successful grower - maybe she can send you the fruits of her labour. I had pretty good luck germinating and growing them, but my 80 pound Black Russian Terrier puppy thought it would be fun to drag down the vine fence - sooooooooo, I cannot attest to how well they bloom, but there are some threads out there with some interesting photos.
Awe darn, LOL! That's okay...I'll remember her name and bug her when she gets more seed, muhahaha.
Hey, Gwen!
I think I can jimmy open your envelope and add a package of parsley for you!
Enjoy!
crimson - you and me both! I was absolutely entranced by a picture I saw of them from a woman in Florida and stalked her for some seeds which she graciously sent - she eventually sent me a couple of tubers, etc. - since these are a bit different than typical MG's or moonflowers, but, alas - not sure what happened - probably a casualty of the same da** dog - love him, hate him, stuck with him. Well, not me - Doug's stuck with him. hahahaha
See, Sequee - now you're honor bound to succeed wildly with these seeds - we're counting on you! >;-)
OMG - he pressure!!!
Hi! Am I too late? If possible I wouldn't mind trying some argemone, castor oil beans, columbine navy blue, and moss rose. Do you know the botanical name for Carolina Butterfly Pea Vine?
Thanks!
canatico
Awe no pressure...
We'll just die flat out deadder than a doornail if you don't succeed! LOL
Cantico - they're all yours. I'd love to find out more about Costa Rica - I've been thinking about property in Belize, but it's so pricey...
Gwendalou - since no reply, I picked the first dozen available ones and put your name on them. I'll contact you via email later.
Cheers!
I guess I'm still a newbie. Would like to have some of the following:
Amaranthus Cruentus and Purple
Purple Millet
Salvia Coccinea-Forest Fire
Maltese Cross
Eremuris Bungei
Asprodeline Lutea
Pensemon Strictus-Bandera
Obedient-Crown Rose
Calstegia American
Cassia Multiglandulosa
I'm sorry you didn't get to enjoy these seeds! When you get back to the good old USA count on me to send you lots of seeds to get you started again. Thanks Bunch!
Brenda
Brenda - they're yours - a couple in your list were also requested by someone else (charline), so I'll share with both of you!
Anyone else interested, please post to this thread - I'm happy to have the opportunity to share these seeds with new folks. Only a few left - Daturas, Baby's breath, Indian blanket, Centaurea Macrocephala... I'd love to be done with everything today! :)
sbarr, you can add the Babys breath , Indian blanket and Centaurea to mine if you like. I have Datura. Thanks.
Doris
Well - all wrapped up. I've contacted everyone for addresses. Again, thanks for giving these seeds good homes.
Sandra
