www.Johnnyseeds.com
is a good site and if you highlight the culture it gives you growing instuctions. The catalog in paper form is also set up the same way.

Here is a list of the web sites I bought plants and seeds and had a good experience with on the purchase...I hope it helps you find some cool stuff for your garden.

http://www.jlhudsonseeds.com/ (go to their web site and order their catalog...it's a treasure trove of information even if you don't order from them; same goes for all these companies listed in this email)

http://www.superseeds.com/

http://www.selectseeds.com/ (seeds and plants)

http://www.thompson-morgan.com/

http://www.wildseedfarms.com/default.htm

http://www.edirectory.co.uk/chilternseeds/pages/banner.asp?companyid=211

http://salviasnorthwest.com/ (haven't ordered from this place but want to)

http://www.seymourseedusa.com/ (pricey but some cool rare stuff)

http://www.hardyplants.com/ (awesome selection and good prices...haven't ordered plants from them yet)

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Hey, deller! Was just thinking about you! I hope the new year brings you joy and lots of new seed catalogs!

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

I went to hardyplants.com to look around. I need to quit doing that.
They had a lot of things I wanted. Well a lot more things than I could afford. So I just picked out a bunch of things and when I went to the cart eliminated all but the necessities!
I kept hoping my husband would leave the room so I could get the credit card out. He doesn't mind what I do, but I feel guilty anyway. I couldn't wait any longer so went ahead and placed the order.
How is it that I can have a whole slew of seeds and still find lots more that I don't have or new ones I want to try. Is there no limit to this madness.

By the way! Happy New Year. This year I actually stayed up past midnight.

Windy,

May the seed addiction never be cured! LOL

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

That site is really cool, isn't it. So many things offered.
How is the germination rate?

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

Seed collecting does seem to be an addiction, I still have some new packs of seeds I bought last year, with great intentions. They should still be good this year, My new years resoultion.... Get all or most of my seed started. (I gave up on the weight thing years ago!) & in the garden where I can see if they really look as good as they do on the pkg. Lol!
Happy New Year everyone!

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

As long as you are looking at online catalogs, check out Stokes: http://www.stokeseeds.com/cgi-bin/StokesSeeds.storefront

Windy,

I will be checking the germination rate of the seeds I bought from the hardyplants site soon. I don't have an answer right yet.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

I don't know how to set up a link, but go to: rhshumway.com, farmerseed.com and gurneys.com - they are all offering "free seeds" for orders placed before mid-March!

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

Now you have done it!!

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Ain't life grand!?!

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Oops - and let's not forget jungseed.com

Oh, and if you are into Tropicals - the BEST... Logees.com

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

Does anyone want to order together? I was looking at Sweet Potatoes (just an example) and it was $9.95 for 12 plants, and $19.95 for 50...I can't use 50...but it is such a good price...

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Sequee, just open the site you want to link, highlight the address on the top and hit copy. Come back to Dave's to your post, and click paste... voila!

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

It is an easy thing to do. If I can do it....

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Good work, Melvatoo! By the way, I saw your picture on another thread and sure liked your face. You look like a happy person!

Hello everyone...
WOW, thanks so much for
the websites. I've
requested so many
catalogs gonna need a bigger
mailbox.
How you doing Wz? think about you
often, did santa make his way
to alaska? bet he did!!!

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Yep, Deller. The jolly ol' boy dropped down the chimney and left me a new digital camera. It was my only gift this Xmas from my hubby, but it will keep on giving all year long! I hope to be able to take better closeups of my plants with this one. Was Santa good to you?

Newport News, VA(Zone 7a)

my goodness my goodness
SO MANY catalogs have been comming in
I had to get another mag basket to
store them. Makes things much
easier now that I have names with
pictures when I browse the
seed trading threads...
I did see elephant ear seeds,
I've been wanting some plants but
they can be $$$$. so I'm gonna try
some seeds to see how they do.
Wz, santa was a pleasure as always..ha
How's your journal comming along?

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Hi, Deller! If you're talking about my journal here on Dave's, I've not done a darned thing. If you're talking about my personal journals, they are pretty dry reading these days. I have to be miserable to be eliquent.

Newport News, VA(Zone 7a)

Now Now Wz
, lots of stories
waiting to be told. and
you my dear are the
grand dame of story tellers
oh how I miss reading your
stories,,,, by the way..
how are the boyz doing?

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

All doing fine, deller... email me and I'll fill you in!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

great list of seed catalogs, but you left out a couple of my favorites:

http://www.territorial-seed.com has lots of interesting varieties and good culture information too

and I just figured out that Pinetree & superseeds.com were one and the same..... I like them for offering smaller packets at smaller prices.

those cataloges do pile up...... especially once the companies figure out you're a garden junkie and start sending you dozens of entirely unsolicited seed and plant catalogs!

Happy browsing!

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Right you are, crittero! Territorial has some great greens listed, as I recall.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm too lazy to go back and check, did we mention Green Dealer Exotic Seeds? They are very unique. A wonderful source for "exotic/rare' seed, and they sell in small quantitiies. Makes it easier for those of us who have to try EVERYTHING!

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Do they have a website, Sequee?

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - I don't know how to set up a link, but if you just go to your search engine and type in Green Dealer Exotic Seeds you will find them. (They are also on the DG rating list if you want to check them out!)

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Will do, Sequee... thanks! Oh, and here's what you do to post a link: Go to the site, hilight the address, hit Copy in Edit, return to the thread here on DG and hit Paste in your post. Posting links was a real innovation for me when I first got the hang of it!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

http://www.greendealer-exotic-seeds.com

I was so proud of myself for managing the hyperlink to Territorial that I had to show I could do it again....

:-)

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Weezi - I've tried it a couple of times with no success - and my frustration level is pretty low, so... Maybe I'll try it again on a good day ~:-)

Thanks critter!

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Good work, crittero! Maybe I haven't explained it very well, Sequee. Gardenwife is so much better at this stuff.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Oh, I'm sure you explained it just fine - as did the other half dozen people who have instructed me - I just have a mental block on this for some reason!

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Well, there may be some other reason. It could be the system you are using? I don't know... that's why I'd like to see Gardenwife's take on this. She's the guru.

Huntington, IN(Zone 5b)

What about R.H. Shumways.
A few unusual seeds and pretty good price. Toll free

1-800-342-9461
www.RHSHUMWAY.COM
Ordered 40 niger Helleborus seeds at $1.45....compared to others and I really saved. Well I haven't seen any seeds yet so I am going to call today. I'll let you know. pot

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

I make out a list of the seeds I need (or want), then go through each catalog and make out a tentative order. Then, I compare the number of seeds and the prices between the catalogs.

In most cases, the deals are really good for some items in most of the catalogs, but pricy for other items. Of course, sometimes a catalog just seems to know my weak points and I order from them just because they are so darned good at hooking me! Select Seeds always does that for me!
