Coppery-headed Emerald

These two pictures were from scanned photos so they are a bit blurry. I saw this species visiting a feeder at Monte Verde, Costa Rica.

Wow!! That is a pretty bird. Do you know what kind it is?

Todd your bird reminds me of the litle Sunbirds I love so much here. Very pretty.

Sunbirds certainly fill the same role in your part of the world as the Hummers do in the Americas. Spectacular birds!

And here they stick around all year, so I don't have to wait all winter to see them again :-). In summer and winter they love my Salvia fulgens and in the various individual seasons they go after a host of other things in my garden from lots of Salvias and Citrus to Tecoma and Pyrostegia and beyond. So all year round I've got plenty to keep 'em coming back....but no matter how bursting with blooms my garden is, they always prefer the Salvia fulgens. And that little plant that was only 6 inches tall when I put it in the garden in early May is now nearly 3 meters tall! So they've got plenty of the plant to enjoy :-)
