Near Anderson's in La Costa, CA??...trade proposal for

(Taylor) Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

Anyone near Anderson's in La Costa, California??

They have a vine I am dying for, but will not ship the vine, -pick up only.
I would love to find someone who'd be interested in trading for some things I have to offer, in exchange for picking up and shipping a vine to me. I have a lot to offer in trade, but will list offers privately in email.
thank you

What is the vine? Perhaps others have it for trade. K

I'm looking for distictis laxilfora "vanilla vine".

They are hard to come by, but are sometimes found in California, or southern Florida.
When I was visiting in California last month, I checked half a dozen nurseries, and they all told me that it was rare, even for California; and that they were either out, or unable to locate any....

At the very end of the trip, I located Anderson's and they had some, but were too far away from where I was visiting, to get in time to make my flight.

So I am hoping someone that lives closer to there can help me out

Thank you, emh48

My good friend "Gourd" sent me that link about a month ago because she knows I am looking for it.

I am keeping that link in mind, but a plant in a 3" pot is REALLY tiny...I am trying to hold out for at least a gallon sized pot.

The one at Anderson's is a 5 gallon, and would be a much better start. They are marginally hardy here, so I am hoping that if I get a larger specimen and get it going in Spring, that I'll be able to mulch it and have it come back from its roots. I am in zone 8 and have a lot of zone 9 & 10 vines that come back from their roots if I really mulch them well(which I always do).

I've ordered tiny plants in the mail before, and seems the tiny plants are much more likely to go into shock and die within the week, despite all my efforts.
Larger plants are much stronger and have a much better chance of being mailed and still arriving in great condition. It is also just as easy to spin the foliage of a larger plant around in a circle, and be able to fit the plant in a box not much bigger than a small plant would require...

I sure appreciate you two's willingness to help.
Thank you

Found one in Encinitas at Anderson's La Costa nursery. It is different than the Anderson's in La Costa.

Anyone in or near Encinitas???

They said they'd be getting the distictis laxiflora in next week, along with the regular distictis rivers.

They also said they've been getting a LOT of requests for it!

Seed, didn't we already speak? I am near Encinitas, well, kinda anyhow. As long as they are holding it, I can drive up and get it.

Mark!
Yes!...,unfortunately, they've still not gotten them in. I keep calling...they said the rains really messed them up, and they've not gotten many of their orders, and many are very delayed...
I'll definitely let you know, when I know more...I have certainly NOT forgotten! lol...
I posted this thread, before you and I discussed it...
