H. australis ssp. keysii

...is an incorrect name.

"I looked at a plant you called H. australis ssp. keysii. There is no such thing. F.M. Bailey described H. keysii, a plant we sank into H. australis ssp. australis. " David Liddle wrote this to me this morning. This refers to the smaller leafed H. australis with darker green on the top of the leaf, and a lighter green underneath, both sides having indumentum (the tiny little fuzzy hairs). As David and Dr. Paul Forster published a paper on the H. australis in Australia, I am changing my labels and references.

Just thought I would pass this on.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday Season.

Yes I have a publication form Foster/Liddle which shows the H. keysii as synonym to H. australis ssp. australis nevertheless it is like you said smaller leaved and it remains in the trade as the H. australis ssp. keysii and you know how hard it is to change names in the trade :)

I have several of these. They seem to grow like gangbusters for me, and are very easy care, but never bloom. What is your experiences with blooms on this one?

Hmmm This form of H. australis seems to be a bit slower to bloom...but when it does...Katy Bar The Door!!! If yours are over a year old, I would start giving it a higher P and lower N...there is a Peters or a Schultz which is like 5-60-7 or something. This is good!!!! H. australis blooms well with a lot of light...and can take some direct sun well.

Good luck...it is a wonderful frgrance!
