I got some photos yesterday from some "snowbird" friends that go to Brownsville, TX for the winter every year. Brownsville is right down there in the Gulf coast. Anyway they got 1.5 cm of snow there Christmas morning. The first recorded snowfall they'd had since 1895 Can you believe it? One can see why they would be excited. Needless to say, our British Columbian friends weren't as thrilled!!! LOL

Thanks for passing that along Pam. I never would have found it and I really enjoyed it.

It's funny isn't it that they had snow in places like Texas and LA yet way up north here many of us had none. Not only did we not have snow, we had one of the wettest Christmases ever....it poured here yesterday. Hopefully it came down as snow on the local ski hill. I went up there (Mt. Washington) with a couple of friends on Thursday. They only had a few downhill runs and one cross-country trail open. It was wonderful to be up in the sun for a few hours because it was cloudy and dull all day at home.

LOL Donna it figures those that are trying to avoid it would have the pleasure of it's company. I sure got a kick out of Lisa's first experience tho'. ;)

I'm glad you enjoyed it too Sandy. You are sure right about the lack of snow in Western Canada.....we only have a few inches. Skiing would have been a marvelous way to enjoy the little that BC has.....the last time I went skiing was in Banff 20 some years ago and I loved every second of it! Can't stand Saskatchewan's ice hills but oooooh the thrill of skiing on fresh powder :D ........you BC'ers are truly blessed! Please don't rub it in tho'! ;)

We didn't ski. We had coffee, went for a walk in the meadows and then had soup back in the lodge. It was icy for skiing that day. I only cross-country ski and hate it when it's icy because I'm not too good on the downhills.

We got a good dump of the "white stuff" yesterday. It was pretty and nostalgic for Christmas Day, but it wouldn't stop. We ended up with 10 inches of heavy wet snow. Temperatures were 4 C today, so it was VERY slushy.

I cross-country ski too, Sandy. Love it. Haven't been out this year yet though.

I'm hoping to go up skiing at least once this year. I never made it last year. I used to go backcountry skiing and I actually prefer that but don't ever seem to get out anymore. I'd like to get some snowshoes because I enjoy snowshoeing.

I've never tried snowshoeing. It looks challenging. I think it might tucker out an old bird like me real fast.

You should try it Donna. I think it's the kind of thing you can do at any age. Snowshoes just allow you to walk in the snow without sinking or slipping. You can walk where you ordinarily wouldn't be able to. You can go as slow or fast as you want. Sometimes when I'm on my cross-country skis and it's icy or hilly I feel out of control. I found when I was on snowshoes I could go anywhere and feel like I was in control. I have to admit that I haven't done it too many times. I also think the type of snowshoes you have make a difference. Some don't have as much grip to them and some I tried were so wide that they got uncomfortable after a while. Where we ski it's very hilly since it's up on the top of a mountain.

Well, when you put it that way, might have to give it a try. Our snow here, when we get it, is heavy and sticky. Do they work ok in that kind snow? If it did, it would sure make it easier for me to get around.

I'm not sure as I haven't tried them in that kind of snow. I would think they would work in any kind but maybe someone else here could answer that question.
