What a lovely group of kids. That is what our Christmas's looked like until this year. Our youngest daughter moved to Oregon in Nov. and took three of our grandchildren. We have two more in S. Calif. that didn't come this year so that left us with one daughter and one grandchild this Christmas. I was really bummed about it, but it turned out to be a very nice and special time with this one daughter and her son. Now I will look forward to this arrangement every other Christmas. The upside of this was that it turned out to be a much more relaxing holiday. But I will always look forward to the more hectic one too.
I only have1 kid so when he marries I dread that his wife will be from another part of the country. What is the saying, a daughter is a daughter all of her life, but a son is son until he gets a wife.
I have already decided I will invite myself and DH along! LOL. They can run but they can't hide.

Patricia...My DH and I moved 3000 miles away from our parents with our four children when the last one was born. Now I see the hurt that we caused them and continue to cause my mom. I hope no one ever does that to me. I think when you are young, you just don't realize...but I sure would now. Please be sure to post a photo of your gathering in '05 !!! And yes, quiet and relaxed is good too!!!
