Another one with snow!! You guys are snowing on my parade. I have visions of moving to climate like yours. Don't spoil it for me. ***only kidding***
I feel SO bad for all of you who got snow that shouldn't have. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that all your plants rebound quickly. (((hugs)))

I hope this isn't a sign of winters to come, lol. For here, it was a once in a lifetime snow. It had been 15 years since a freeze and over a hundred years since it snowed here.

Not sure about Calalily, but I was delighted with the snow! Almost 2 months ago I felt that we were in for a hard winter http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/468052/ so I asked my DH to build me a 'greenhouse'. All my non-hardy plants were inside and are doing great!

We even had a chrysalis hatch during the cold and were able to feed it on the nectar of blooms until we released it today to some gorgeous weather.

Forgot to mention the banana shrubs in the background of the picture above. They had their leaves severely burned, but they'll come back. Unfortunately the 3 bunches of bananas ripening won't.

But, there is always next year.

Is that a Monarch? How nice that he had a warm place to stay.
What should i do with my banana bunches? They are still green, but the leaves on the tree are brownish.

Yep, it's a Monarch. Funny thing, I didn't see any this year during their migration and had given up on them. When things started getting cool here I moved a new butterfly weed into the gh to keep it safe. A few days later a caterpillar appeared on it. (Guess the heat allowed an unseen egg to hatch.)

Not sure what to tell you about your bananas. Here those are Dh's territory and he's taking his time about cleaning them up. He's wanting to see if they're going to stay green.

Howdy Lisa, how are the palms now? My Queen Palm is fine. My Majesty palm is freeze-fried : - (
I have hopes it will survive. Its getting cold again and will be in the mid 30's here tonight. Strangest winter in the last decade plus for me. Hope the Palms survive, George in San Antonio

hi george,
my tropicals all have turned a wonderful shade of brown, browner and brownest..so far, all the palms are looking ok. The one that took the biggest hit was my Ribbon Palm. Most of the fronds are broken from the weight of the ice and snow. It is very warm here, we've been in the lower 80's. I think the cold front you are having will not get down this far. Things will bounce back in the spring. I am amazed at some of my things that did survive..bullet proof is what I call 'em!

thanks for asking.
Lisa

Lisa, we're cool and rainy today. Want me to send it your way?
The foxtails and triangles took the biggest beating here, but I see green in the center so I think they will be okay.
