Well it's Christmas Eve and here's my cluster of gems from the garden. This will be our second 'green' Christmas in a row...maybe we are starting something new! St. John's is becoming the new Victoria! LOL! I must admit it's the first time I've ever had anything blooming in the garden at Christmas. They should make a nice little nosegay for the Christmas dinner table!
My Christmas Crocus
Very pretty! Lucky you...OK Victoria, show us your blossoms!
They look lovely Todd and I have a feeling you didn't need your special glasses to take the picture. ;)
We had one of our rare sunny days today! Fog is forecast for tomorrow!
So how does Santa find your houses???
They are lovely Todd, wish I had some of those.

Any gardeners in Victoria or vancouver should invest in fall crocus.....they are all hardy in your area while only a few survive in zone 5. There are over a dozen fall-blooming species, starting in October and continuing into January, only to be followed by the earliest 'spring' bloomers, which flower in your area in February. I'd certainly have loads of them if in your zone. The species shown should be readily available in any larger nurseries, but some are specialist plants. Fraser Thimble farms on Saltspring island offers many fall-blooming crocus species.
Who knew? I didn't. Now I do. Thanks Todd.
tried them here for a couple of years cause they were listed as hardy to zone 4 - sometimes i think garden catalogs lie yours are beautiful Todd
my only flowers are indoors provided thankfully by the local wholesaler so I have peonies, red tulips, pincushion flowers, black calla, kangaroo paw, stocks, and irises
Are your peonies cutflowers or actually flowering plants? They must have come from the southern hemisphere where it would be the equivalent of June.
cut flowers todd very pretty
I just saw this thread....catching up from all the activity I missed while out of cyber-range at XMas. Very pretty crocuses, Todd. Thanks for the pic.
Fall crocuses are widely available here, so perhaps they are hardy in places other than the west coast as well. I imagine the blooming time here is earlier in the fall, as by January we are usually under 2 ft of snow....I'll have to try some next year and let you know! :-)

Ah-hah! I have crocuses! I thought they might be, because they came up before anything else in my front yard, but I wasn't sure.
I'm baffled, though. They showed up the first time last spring, haven't seen them before and we've lived at this house for nine years. I never planted any bulbs out there. Odd.
Anyway, we have crocuses. I'm sure the new owners IF ANYONE EVER BUYS MY HOUSE, will love them.
Cheerfully (trying!),
Kris, who is moving in 13 days and hasn't sold her house yet.....
Good Luck- Kris. Joelle
Thanks, Joelle. We have an open house today, maybe someone will turn up that won't be able to resist the crocuses.....
Kris
Did you move some soil where the crocuses are? We've got them everywhere in the garden because the little bulbs spread so easily. The compost bins get full of all kinds of little bulbs so they get spread around with that too.
Good luck selling your house Kris. Let us know how it goes.
Sandy
