Well, what a lovely Christmas present f/your B. Escargot! I just discovered buds on my --totally different topic, but-- "Mother-of-Thousands" Bryophyllum daigremontianum, and I'm thrilled w/my "late gift!"

Happy New Year! (and repost when your buds open, ok? I'd love to see the bloom too.)

Here is the opened bloom, Kathleen:

I was hoping they would be sort of coral, but they are white, like several other rex blooms I have.
It is wonderful to have flowers blooming in winter here...it keeps me going over the long dreary cold months.
Happy holidays,

where did you folks all get your begonia? I havent located any in spring books. Are they slow growing or fairly fast? I think they are neat looking.

Hi Oriole,
I got a piece from a friend who rooted a leaf. Mine is fairly slow growing so far. I have seen them for sale on internet sites, but they are still a bit pricey. In a few years, I suspect they will be rather widely available. I would offer you a piece of mine but it is still too small right now.
One of the DG members posted a picture on a thread...I copied it to my hard drive for inspiration...I will attach it here. Wish I could remember who posted it. It is fantastic.

Edited to add a link to the picture and a photo credit. Datdog posted this picture of the begonia and this link goes to the thread. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/456132/
Hope you don't mind, Datdog!

That's a first day of retirement purchase for me., That and a Nutalus. I had them both and they "passed over" while I was away working.
So give em an extra sigh for me.
