I took a cutting from a 10ft tropical hibiscus before I donated it to the local zoo,it was a single red.
The cutting didn't stay true to the parent, you think it will when the cutting becomes bigger?

She is pretty just like this.
Here's the parent flower.

I think it will become truer as it gets older too. Premature flowers are usually smaller ad darker or paler than mature ones.
That's great that you're donating it to the zoo!
Hi Tropicman,
I know that one of mine changed a bit this winter. It was quite orangy-red, and now it is very true red. It is a bigger plant now, the temps are lower, and it is under 50% shade in the greenhouse as opposed to full sun this summer. I am guessing that one or more of these conditions has caused the change...too bad I don't know which one, LOL.
BTW, I picked a bloom that was just opened, and brought it inside and stuck the flower in a pot of dirt that had red impatiens blooming in it. No water. The flower looked gorgeous for 2 days! Somebody here at DG had written that you could put them in your hair, etc, with no water and they would stay fresh looking. Apparently it is true!
This is off the subject, but are you thinking of coming to the Missouri Roundup if Kansas does not have one? http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/460979/
I think it will be fun, and a great way to trade plants. langbr is from KC, and will be in charge of the plant swap.
Happy holidays!
Well I guess time will tell if she becomes true to parent.
No round up in Kansas that I know of,but will give it some thought come spring.
I don't travel too far from the house these days.
