I had to put one of my baby Brugs down today. I got 3 cuttings from a friend in Alberta in September. I right away put them in water to root. The day I received them, this same friend convinced me to start one in soil, the way she does. So convincing she was, I tried it. My first two rooted in water are a vigorous and healthy CG and Knightii that are now nearly 12 inches in height. The third, a Betty Marshall, struggled and after a month, I took it out of the soil and put it in water again for a couple weeks. It grew some little roots, but it must have been terminal then, cause after putting it in soil again for 3 weeks, nothing was happening. I dug it up and, yes, poor Betty had met her demise with incurable Spongy Hollow Stem disease. It was so sad to lose her. Betty, RIP!
Very sad...
Oh how terrible, and to lose her at Christmas time.
Do you have any left, that is hard wood? Cut off the rotten wood, and try to get that peice rooted.
Otherwise, so sorry to hear about poor Betty, she isn't one that I have.
Linda
OFG, I am so sorry for your lose. I don't have Betty to share with you. But you are welcome to any of my brug cuttings in the spring, I will send you a list in March or April of who survived in the GH. Please remind me then. Joelle
You guys are wonderful at a time of mourning for a fellow Brug addict, thank you...but no Linda, the stem was "toast"... no chance for revival..
But the good news is that the Apple Blossom seeds that I got from HoniBee are thriving and I should have bitty plants to trade by Spring? Whoo Hoo!
Sorry the time of mourning was so short...
