i'm calling it UNA, because it's the first i'm going to try to grow. 5" rooted cutting. those leaves are almost 1" long. waiting for a few weeks before i transfer UNA to a bigger container.
comments and kudos are most welcome. thank you!

This is the place to learn everything you need to know about them. Any questions will be answered. We have all had them. Read all you can ,on this site and you'll be as addicted as we are! These people all want you to enjoy this plant like they do! Enjoy!!
Bonnie
thank you, bonnie. yes, the threads have been very helpful. i've been reading about brugmansias and enjoying the pictures posted. i hope you're right. we'll do a count same time next year ;-)

i've always admired brugmansias. had no idea of the name though, and when i joined dg 2 weeks ago, i noticed this forum is probably the MOST active. with the photos you all have posted, i can see why. the plant is captivating. i haven't stopped looking at pictures and reading about brugmansias ever since.
v, wow. yours have buds already. we'll all be tuned in.
k, UNA maybe ecuador pink.
thank you both for cheering me/UNA on.
What a lucky surprise. How long did you have it in a baggie?
Bonnie
bonnie, mine is a 5" cutting. 3 weeks in sandy soil. on it's own today. i should have taken pictures of the roots.
See, I'm so new I don't know my pods from my blooms..... LOL
I guess this means it's only called a pod if it's pollunated and contains seeds ? otherwise it's called a bloom..... ? Do pods look different ? How far off am I still....
RootDoctor gave me a bunch of brugs and 'stuff' and this was a piece I broke off a bigger brug (by accident). It was just a stick when I broke it off.... no leaves no nothing but I didn't want to just toss it without giving it a chance.....
I put about 20 cuttings (which were nothing more than sticks) in dirt and baggies about a month ago. I really like the baggie method very low maintenance and I only lost one ( a knightii). Got great folllow-up advice from Kaufmann and Brugie about doing this after reading previous posts.
Moonglow, I've been around since about August and everyone here is very helpful and generous with advice, plants and encouragment. It's a great group of individuals.
Blooms start out as buds and become blooms after the buds open. Maybe that will help Buds to blooms, pollination to pods. Trying a little word association. You aren't the only person who has had a problem with this, so don't feel bad. Pods are generally a little smoother on the outside and definitely hard to the touch and buds are softer. Once you see a pod in person, you will easily tell the difference. Another thing, pods on different plants look different too.
moonglow...your first brug looks wonderful! Welcome to DG and Brugs ! I am new to brugs since this spring...started with 2, and now have...too many to count!
vs...one of mine is starting to set a pod....the pod starts out very small, you see it once the blossom falls off. I photographed one a week or so ago and will post it here.
I have never seen a large one...but apparantly this is how they start out...
kudos, kudos, kudos, kudos, kudos, kudos, kudos, kudos, kudos, kudos
The bees did it ! Many of the ones on EP fell off....one on Rosamond seems to be staying on...for now anyway.
Maybe next year!
Cool!
Bud - Bloom - Pod - Bud - Bloom - Pod (it's a Brug montra) ..... I'm just glad it's not DEAD....... LOL
All good explainations..... and the pics really help ...... If I truly understand then it sounds like a case of first comes the the bud then comes the bloom then comes the pod..... but only after a little pollination .....
I'd love to watch some of you ol' pros reading the posts from us newbies...... and I say this in the sincerest of sentiments..... but I bet you guys shake your heads a little - have a little snicker, mumble something about "rookies" ...... : - ) and sometimes have a really good laugh......
We are all Rookies compared to Monika, and even the best, still have to laugh at themselves,it is a learning process that never ends.
Nice to see your name pop up here RootDoctor...... Thought maybe you were lost in that sunroom jungle of yours.........
wow, a girl goes shopping and this thread grew! thank you all for stopping by and sharing brug jedi wisdom! so awesome to give us newbies the help and cheer we need.
i'll get back and read the replies. in the meantime, "happy holidays to all my new friends here at dg."
happy new year to all! so, did you get all the loot you wanted over the holidays? i sure hope so. here's UNA today with a few more leaflets. i have to read on again. is the pot (3.5") too small...temp...lighting conditions, etc.
happy gardening. we have sunshine today in corte madera, but it's been a very wet winter.
Moonglo, I would leave it in that pot for awhile. In winter they are slower to get rootbound. Did you peek at the roots? Brug cuttings tend to rot in winter more easily if kept too wet. Yours looks good enough to get you hooked. UNA will soon be TOOMANYA. LOL
VS, I had missed this thread earlier. Yours look great. I would take them out of the bags now. If they wilt, then put them back in. A new bag if possible. Once I bag something, whether it be a cutting or a seed, I never open the bag until I am ready to take it out for good. Each time you open it, you may introduce fungus spores into that damp environment.
thanks, kell. i wouldn't mind TOOMANYA of these beauties. lol. i don't know why i didn't take a picture of UNA's roots before potting (excitement, most likely). but using other forum pictures as guides, the roots really looked healthy. no dark rotting kind.
VS, any progress shots of your babies?
hello, again. UNA 5 weeks old now. same height. she did lose those leaves and grew these few. she's growing some on the lower node as well.
is this SLOW for a brug? same pot, btw.
today i saw three PLUMP APHIDS on her and removed them. i'm searching the forum for aphids threads.
thanks for stopping by.
annapet
MG, that little bruggie is looking good :)
thanks, pam. i guess she's ok then.
=)
Is it outside? If your temps aren't freezing at night or even below 50, you might want to give her some sunshine. Not all at once because she could burn, but slowly get her used to it. If she is outside, then there isn't much you can do to push her along except a little bit of fertilizer. By July you will probably have lots of blooms on her.
hi, shirley. thanks for the posts on both threads. UNA is inside, 5 ft away from a south-facing window. that's the kind of sunshine she's getting. i'll get her closer.
it's warming up here already. soon she'll be really out there. JULY? that SOON? wow, such a thrill. i'm so happy already that she has leaves.
