The other day I found, in a local nursery, a small very shiney green H. compacta. It is about the size of H. cv. Holliana...very very short internodes and very very glabrous leaves...half the size of the regular H. compacta. Has anyone seen this? Know what it is? or isn't?
TIA, Carol
New cultivar?
....did you buy it????? :~D
Carol, why don't you send it to me and let me check it out:-)???
Blessings,
Awanda
KG - You bet I bought it!!! It was big enough to take some cuttings. How blond of me not to take a picture to post....I will.
Gosh, Awanda...what a sweet and generous offer ! I asked it if it wanted to go to Arizona and it said "not in the winter"....poor thing. LOL
Carol, you beat me to it as I just wanted to ask for a picture :)
Just took one...will download and send tonight. ;~{)
I was given a similar plant several years ago. I kept expecting the leaves to get larger, however to date, the leaves have remained small as you described. I have often wondered if it might be different from compacta. I kept trying to tell myself that it was my imagination!!
Carol, I'd say it's probably Hoya compacta. I say that because mine is huge, I've had it several years. Some of the vines have much smaller foliage than others. I'd never really noticed until I read this post and took a good look at my plant.
Some vines have leaves that are half the size of others, these vines are 3 feet long, maybe longer. The ones with large leaves seem to continue to grow them large, while the ones with smaller leaves seem to stay small.
As easily as the Hoyas bloom for you, the blooms will tell all!
It must be Hoya M.S.......(mutant sport!) LOL
Thanks, Leslie...I have no doubt at all that it is H. compacta. I just wondered if it were a new cultivar on the market...much prettier than the large leafed one...I think.
Okay I'm on my way to check out mine:-).
Blessings,
Awanda
Yes...it is one of that fat tipped Sharpies.
