Seed pod on a cutting

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Here is PB X UK on a cutting taken last month. The cutting has rooted and has new leaves, and the pod is continuing to grow. Maybe there will be something pretty in there :)

WOW how lucky can you get :)

Congrats Gretchen. Maybe that pod will hold the next "best brug".

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Congrats, Gretchen. Some of mine on plants don't look that good.

Thank you all! I am absolutely amazed it didn't die. Of course it still could, but I'm hopeful that it'll stay on until ripe :) I would imagine the pollen is either Isabella or Pink Floyd. They were on either side of her and blooming simutaneously. If its PF, maybe it will be something interesting...

That is really cool Gretchen. Some day I hope I will have a "pod". It must be really exciting opening one up. Kinda like Christmas?

That is precious Gretchen!!! I can only dream...

Gretchen, it should be fine. The first pods I had on Charles Grimaldi weren't ripe and a frost was coming so I cut the stems and stuck them in dirt. The pods matured and the cutting rooted. Hope you get something real nice from your seeds!

Thank you all -- That's pretty cool, Cala! I had a couple of other cuttings that had pods when I took my cuttings, but this is the only one where the cutting and the pod survived. Should be interesting. I have a long wait to find out though LOL!

Mc Call Creek, MS

I'll bet they will make it! I had two Rosamond crossed pods on my shredded white that was in the ground. I knew it was going to turn cold before they matured, so I air-layered the limb they were on. After it got roots on it, I transferred just that part to the greenhouse. So far, so good.

I also have two or three pods on those BIG cuttings of some I put in 5 gallon buckets in the house for the winter. Some of them are looking good. Whether they make it to maturity probably depends on the maturity at the time they were cut, as well as whether or not they have any roots at all.

JT suggested light feedings for those in water buckets. A friend (well, Gretchen, you know Lagata) from BGI kept hers lightly fertilized last winter in buckets of water and they actually bloomed for her that way.

'Hope you get a winner!

Thanks, Kay! I sure hope so!!! And, good luck with yours, too :)

I am so interested to see if these seeds mature, Gretchen. I cut off a branch with a pod once in error and almost cried. It didn't make it. I no longer can remember how bigi it was when cut, I just remember the trauma when I first realized what I had done. LOL. Please keep us informed.

Its still hanging in there. The cutting is growing like crazy, but the pod is about the same, I'd say. It probably won't ripen until Spring at this point.

Kell - that had to be a killer! :(

Oh it was when I was young and I had no clue what I was doing. As I recall it was a CDW so I probably had double pink babies in my mind. . The next year I killed all my CDW plants. LOL. I am fickle.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Well that makes two of us on the CDW. I had two planted in my garden that were each about 5-6' tall by the end of summer. Neither had Y'd, and I let them go. I'm not going to give garden space to anything that doesn't bloom for me in one season. Shoot, the growing season's so long here, there's no excuse LOL!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Gretchen, we all wish we had your growing season. LOL

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

And I wish I had Susie's, Ada! The grass is always greener in someone else's yard, huh? There are times though that I wouldn't mind being back in your part of the world. I sometimes miss the change of seasons. We really don't have Spring or Fall. Just Summer and Dreary! LOL!!!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Gretchen, the past couple of years we haven't had Spring or Fall either. It goes from Winter to summer and Summer to winter. LOL We're going to be in the 60's for the next few days and I'm loving it. Almost gives me Spring Fever. LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

My CDW bloomed beautifully but it was a mite magnet. I was so sick of mites. So bye bye. We have so many brugs now here in the USA we do not need to put up with inferior genes.

Ada -- our weather has changed so much, ugh!

Kell -- all the more reason to Hasta la Vista, BABY! I hope I spelled that right LOL!
