I'm in turmoil. There's a really dumpy auto repair shop on my way to work (in the highest crime area in the city). I have seen two dogs behind the locked chain link gate (it goes across the driveway) on my way to work (as early as 6:30am). There is so much junk on this property I can't see if there is any shelter provided for them other than the piles of junk, tires or parts of cars. I came into work around 8:00am Sunday and saw them huddled against the building. It is starting to get really cold out and I'm worried about them.
During the day the shop owner must put them somewhere else so customers can pull in and out of the lot. There is another fence adjacent to the building with a blue tarp to block the view of what otrocities must be behind there. I'm guessing that's maybe where the dogs spend their daytime hours.
Anyways I called the local police dept to find out the ordinances and they told me outdoor dogs must have adequate shelter and fresh food and water daily. They offered to send someone out right away to check on the conditions the dogs are living in.
Do I give the police the info so they can followup? I'm concerned (preoccupied actually!) with the well being of the dogs but at the same time don't want to make things worse for them. The one and only time I contacted someone about the neglect of their dog the situation got worse and they moved the dog to the back 40 where no one (not even them) could hardly see it.
Anyone have any stories or advice to share on what to do?
Thanks,
Sandy
Should I have the dogs situation investigated?
