Cestrum Elegans Fasciculatum

Mc Call Creek, MS

This one blooms best after it turns cool here. I love it, though.

Oh I love that one! I had a lot of cestrums but I lost them during the move. I mean lost, I didn't kill them, I don't know what I did with them, lol.

There is a local nursery here that has those for sale. I stop by there about once every other week or so to see what they have new. I have looked at this plant several times and thought about buying one but don't know if it will do well here.
The guy that owns this nursery brings all sorts of exotic stuff in and tells people that it will grow here when I know for a fact that a lot of it won't such as Snowfountain Weeping Cherry. He sells those for about $169 and it just doesnt get cold enough here for them to grow as they should but the owner will tell any fool that hands him the money for one,oh yeah that'll grow here.

Guess i'll do some online searching and see for myself if they will grow here before I go and invest in one. The plants that he is offering look just like the one above and they are blooming right now.

They won't grow for you outside in SC in the wintertime. I'm right on the border of zone 8a and 8b. I put mine either in a sunny window or the greenhouse in the winter. The only problem with them in the house is that the flowers shatter a lot and make kind of a mess. They bloom heavily and are gorgeous, though. Mine is in full bloom right now.

They are worth the trouble to me because they are so pretty. Incidentally, this one has been blooming for at least two months, so you might get some early fall blooms outside if it doesn't get cold too early. I have left mine outside to almost freezing.....maybe 34 or so and it did not seem to flinch.

Good luck!

Maybe come spring i'll get one. By then I should have my new gh built. The little gh I have now is just packed too full to try and get one now. Besides if I wait til spring I can then leave it outside until at least late November before I have to worry about any frost.

Boy do I know how that goes! It is 70 degrees here today and supposed to be 21 tomorrow night. My poor plants are so confused and so am I. I drag them out of the GH, then to the yard, then to the house, and then I start all over again.

Beautiful flowers, Kay. Never heard of a Cestrum with that color. Are they fragrant too?

Would like to try it indoors, if possible. Where could I get one?

I've never noticed any fragrance, but then I've never really sniffed of them either.

Karen, you have mail.
