I posted some photos of the bulldozer clearing the road...here is "work in progress" of a map of our property with the plantings. It started out as 1) a list of plants/trees we have and 2) a map... We will be adding to it continually as we plant new stuff.

Don't get lost...just click on the arrows, Hs, plants...
Another name for this might be "Rocks I have known and loved"!!!
My "garden tour"
Thanks carol,
Really enjoyed the tour, you have a great place.
Being that things grow so fast in HI,can't wait to see it a year from now!
Don
Wow, those orchids are awesome. I love #2 and the first #15. Really cool ficus (variegated, I guess). Who's the brave guy on the side of the MT.? Beautiful home....and the fruit....well, what can I say? Is the guest room ready? LOL! You guys have really done a lot of work and I can see that you will be at it for quite a while with all that room to play with. I'd love to see some pictures from year to year showing how much things have changed. By the way, that was the strangest looking cherry I have ever seen. Edible? Great tour. I'll probably go back and look some more. I'm sure I missed a couple of things first time around. Thanks so much for showing us your place. It's awesome.
wowzers! i thought #4 and #11 orchids are to die for! THis is the big league. I'm little league...lol
congratulations, absolutely beautiful, certainly paradisiacal.
went back to look some more. how big is your pineapple bed? I was told I could grow pineapple in houston, looking at your bed, seems like it would be a lot of fun to try.
what, no plumies?
Your place is beautiful. I love the orchids, but liked the heliconias best.
Thanks... I have talked DH into putting in more "view" shots...and then time photos of some of the plants and areas showing the growth and the changes. Today I planted 5 trees and a mess of Ti...little by little.
The pinapple beds are pretty big! If you don't grow them in pots...be sure to plant them close together so they don't fall over with the weight of the Pine and when it gets topheavy...
Nurseries around here, selling orchids to the mainland, throw away or give away the rejects(too tall, too crowded, too....)..or they sell them off at the market and they are really inexpensive. A non blooming "Cat" at the market will go for $1....and it is easier to put them in trees than in the ground!!!! No soil...basically rock (300 year old lava flow!).
Plummies aren't terribly happy up here...too much rain and they get rust. We do have quite a few, in fact but they are bare now and not very attractive! Our daughter, Jennifer, on Maui grows the Plumerias (Maui Plumeria Gardens)...
Aloha
Oh wow oh wow!!! Its just beautiful!
Brugie...guest room all ready for you!!!
Hey (shhhhh, don't say anything, OK?) what's a MT?
This whole thing shows you CAN have Paradise on a budget!!!
Orchids for a buck!!!!!!!!
Here the smallest pup,15 bucks, full size plant 25 to 35 depending on the vareity!
I Can't grow a orchid to save my soul!!!!
It is totally amazing to me - instructions are always very precise about watering, about light about about about.... Here they go on trees and if it rains, great! If it doesn't, great! if it rains for 6 straight days or nothing for 3 weeks...hey...they grow, they bloom. Must be temp and humidity...gotta be sumpin 'cause a hit with Miracle Grow when we remember is all they get!!! LOL
Easy for you say, even when I do nothing they die!!!LOL!
Having green thumbs and living in Hawaii too!!!! LOL!
I think she's bragging.....LOL
I think your right, and if I was her,I would too! LOL!
Beautiful, Carol! I know Jennifer and belong to her wonderful Maui Plumeria Gardens forum! You are so blessed to have such a lovely property, and you are so organized to have put that map together! The plants themselves are astonishingly beautiful.
OK...so you have to know my big secret: it is Jennifer's father, Bob (aka DH) who is organized and he loves doing maps and stuff on the computer. I am way way too blond!!! :~)
LOL, Carol! That is okay. It is still neat, and I'm sure you get the credit for the beautiful plants.
tell DH he has a jealous husband in Richmond TX. He was quite impressed w/ the map. Pretty cool!
and again, glorious property
