Our own "Sodapopkid" kindly shared his successes in growing hoyas indoors in Massachusetts and I posted them at http://www.bigislandgrowers.com/ghp/AHmiszk.php I have never seen hoyas grown indoors exclusively be this big and this healthy....all of them! I am very impressed by his H. linearis!!
Growing hoyas in COLD climates
Wow, that makes two of us who are impressed. Beautiful healthy looking plants. Great job Sodapopkid!!
Blessings,
Awanda
Wow is right. Those are so big and beautiful. My hats off to him. Well now i will have to turn my guessroom into a plant room. Just can't tell my hubby. hehehe :)))))))
That is so amazing. Gives me some hope for my Minnesota winters. Heather
Thank you Awanda, binky1972,hbabcock,ceedub...and also my dear friend Carol!!
I just re-read this thread, viewed sodapopkid's pictures, and realized you ain't seen nothin' yet - I had a 20+ year old hoya, I believe its a carnosa, that was incredibly huge. Then I got two kittens .... do the words "jungle-gym" strike fear into hoya-lovers' hearts? Sigh. I kept cuttings, and now have its 4 yr. old child. Anyway I have pictures pre-kitties and will post as soon as I find them. Fortunately, my Girlies outgrew their love of hoyas....
As promised, this plant had a west exposure at this point, and I had moved residences six months previous to this picture. It lived with me another 2 years, then I got The Girlies. They didn't kill it, but at least 3/4 of its foliage was gone. When I moved the last time, the new owners of the house bought it from me, and have nursed it back to health I'm told. Anyway, here's a couple of views of the old dear.
Hi Christine,
great pics of that carnosa.....what size pot was the original plant in for a trellis to be that large? that is huge!......kittens are just the sweetest creatures until they are unleashed on your plants....lol....
Sandy
Way to GROW, Christine!!! Do I see a peduncle or 10 on Son of Carnosa?
What a clever spot to put it, on the banister! Guess they didn't shoot many crime chases in your house, as the hero jumps over the end of the banister to save a few steps.... OOOOoopsy.
Carol
Thanks!!
Sandy, the pot that's in is about 14". I transplanted it shortly after this shot was taken into a pot that was about 2 feet - this was before I lost my arrogance about using only clay pots - so I could not lift the pot itself. The last movers I had complained about the weight of the plant....lol.
LOL Carol, that bannister just happened to have a sliding glass door opposite it, and with a west exposure, she was very, very happy there. And, luckily, no crime scenes wih the bad guy trailing hoya behind him while shooting his way out the door ....
Son of Carnosa bloomed for the first time this past summer, and bloomed like crazy for its first year - I was very proud!! You have some eye there Carol, while they're obviously there,I don't see any peduncles in the picture; gotta get my magnifying glass out.

There is a peduncle peeking out from under an outside leaf on the left...about halfway up. And where there is one ...there are usually more! LOL
No, it's just my 'umbel beginnings'. LOL
Carol ... you have a Eagle eye!! does that come natural?
Yeah, me and Superman!!!
