Picadillo - A Traditional Cuban Dish

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

I found this in the paper today - one of my favorites!!

2 medium onions, chopped
1 large green pepper, diced
1/4 cup olive oil
2 lbs ground round or ground turkey
6 small tomatoes or one 8 oz can
2 tsp salt
2 cloves garlic, minced
black pepper to taste
1/4 cup vinegar
1/4 cup pimento-stuffed green olives, chopped
1/2 cup raisens
1 Tbs capers
1/2 cup red wine or cooking sherry

Brown onions and green pepper in olive oil. Add meat, chopped tomatoes, salt garlic, black pepper and stir frequently to break up any large chunks. Add remaining ingredients and simmer slowly until meat is tender and the flavours have developed, about 30-40 minutes. Serve with white rice.

It's pronounced Peek-ah-DEE-yah.
