Some question on trading?

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Hello all. I have some seed that I would like to give away, just wondered how you guys divide them up and do you have to send them in a SASEBE or can they be sent in just an evelope wrapped inn tissue paper. Does it depend on type of seed and size?
I have Salvia, Asclepias, Tomatoe, Sweet Bell Peppers, and some Annuals. Once I figure out what to do I will post them for SASE or SASBE. For most I was thinking 20 seed a person. Let me know what you think. Thanks George

It is best to put them in an envelope wrapped in bubblewrap or a special envelope that already has the bubblewrap attached to it.
Even small seeds can be turned to powder, especially this time of year with so much mail. In a mail carrier they sit underneath lbs. of other mail and the weight alone could smash them
Just let the SASBE postage be enough to cover your costs. It usually costs at least $.49 for that if they supply the bubble envelope and if not, ask for two regular stamps to supply it for them.

Good information Windy!

There is also the Trading Primer which covers quite a lot of ground too http://davesgarden.com/trading/primer/

I find that if you put a .37 stamp on a bubble envelope and add an addition .12 that is what the post office requires for an envelope that is too large to go through their machine=.49 [It works fine for me]

I have cut bubble wrap to fit in a regular mailing envelope. The piece is big enough to fold over so the seeds are protected on both sides. I use tape to secure all the flaps. I place a 50 cent stamp on the envelope and write 'Hand Cancel' on the front of the envelope. For seeds that go overseas, I use a good bubblewrap envelope. Of course, I also re-use bubble wrap envelopes that are sent to me in trade. Incidentally, I use the 50 cent stamps because it's easier for me than buying the additional postage for 37 cent stamps, and it's only a penny more per mailing.

Thanks for all the help, I am getting seed ready to post. George
