I was generously sent a cutting of Herrenhauser Garten and I blissfully treated it like everyone else. I have been reading slight mentions of its' fussyness...and it doesn't look so hot right now.
So...I rooted it in a pot, it formed good roots and I planted it out in a sunny/shady spot...lots of air circulation. Does it sulk after leaving its' pot... Should I do (or not do) particular things (lullabies in German...help?).
Thanks for any help.
Carol
'nother obvious (not to me) question
Carol, didn't you know to get HG to do good and bloom you have to put on those hose things and short pants with suspenders and drink German beer while dancing around the brug by the light of every full moon between the vernal and autumnal equinox.
Just kidding, it should recover. Did you have it in a nice protected area while it was rooting and then move it outside to plant? It will just take some time to adjust, but should be fine in a few days.
Javohl meine liebchen!! (You forgot the heavy boots and the stomping!!!).
HG was in my greenhouse rooting...then I moved it out to an outdoor bench (bright light, sun) and then about 2 weeks ago I put it in the ground, good cinder soil and watered with Superthrive. Too much moving?
What are the secrets to this one....? Lots of water? My gosh...I now have terrified myself!!
If you planted it with a good root system, it should be fine. Perhaps HG is just trying to go dormant from the decrease in light. Plus, if you started with a woody cutting, they can be slower to grow IMHO.
I have never had any problem rooting or growing HG. Blooming it is where I have trouble. Mine was filled with buds when I had to move it in this fall, which caused the buds to retreat. I think it was Suz that told me to starve it of fertilizer to encourage blooms. It seems the doubles, other than white, are so much harder to blooms!
As you most likely know I am definaly no expert but just think of the name, like Calaliy said it just wants a little enticement, try a bikini and the Beer, for every bottle you drink give HG a sip. It could be sulking cause he liked where he was.
Good luck.
Doris
Thanks everyone.
Mel, you were right! I have the Brug Bug and now with 1/2 mile of new road to plant, I have an empty palette to fill!!! Bob just roles his eyes when I say "or...we could put a Brug there"...then I show him a picture of the bloom and he is sold!!! Nothing goes dormant here (except plumerias)..there are two seasons: fast and faster. If I throw brug cuttings in the bush they root! So why am I worried? Well, gotta worry about one of them!!!!
Good, well I shall just give HG a salute everytime I go by...maybe a few beer drinking songs. :~).
Honestly, Cala, didn't you know that's the dance you do while circular swinging a dead chicken over head??
I had no idea it was the same Sherry, but for the HG to bloom, I think one should use German sausages instead of a chicken.
German sausage sounds good to me, it goes great with beer. AlohaHoya be sure to let us know how it works. *LOL*
Doris
Picture please....I am not quite getting the picture!
Cala, only German Shepherd breeders use German sausages, ha!
You all are too much!!!!
But I did invite some Austrian friends by to sing German carols to it!
Maybe mulching with sauerkraut?
That sauerkraut mulching sounds like it may be good for ridding the plants of fungus knats! Just a guess...or it may draw them!!
beautiful doggie
get the German dog to intimidate the German plant
bloom or I'll bite
Scoot, are you a handler??? If so, do you ever travel south?? I'd love to say hello, if you attend a show in this part of the country, Jackson, Memphis, Little Rock, Biloxi, etc...when I think of your breed, I think of Jimmy Moses, who has handled a few Goldens for me, he's a nice guy...
Were friends of jimmy's and his best buddy/handler kent is our neighbor.
Toby finished with his 2 majors a couple weeks ago in Biloxi / Kent handling .
Jimmy flew back to O'Hare in Chicago with Toby
.It's nice when you can get someone to come along with the dogs.
He is prolly going to breed some of his girl dogs to Toby.
Any way let's get off this thread......
